My lad bought me AC Syndicate for my birthday, buying it on Steam. When you activate the Steam link it creates a permanent link to UPlay and you play it through UPlay rather than Steam. As an AC fan, I've always had a UPlay account so the process was pretty straightforward. Uplay seems to come in for a lot of stick on HUKD but TBH, I've always found it to be an okay service.

That is correct, it won't activate on Steam, but if you were to purchase the game on Steam, it installs the game and a trimmed (although sometimes full) version of the UPlay Client, and it is tied to your UPlay account.
Simply put, buy it on Steam, it's tied to both Steam and UPlay. Buy it on UPlay and it's only tied to UPlay.

I honestly don't get the hatred for Uplay, in my opinion it's better than the complete bloatware that Steam like to throw in your face every time you open it.

I've bought every one of the assassins creed games now.. just bought this and rogue to finish it all off and haven't even played one of them yet :disappointed: I know I'm missing out
