Virus Removal Tools To keep your android device safe from Android Malware and other android viruses, we recommend you upgrade to AVG AntiVirus Pro and maximize your protection.
Android/generic_malware is a malicious android app used to interrupt the normal operations of your android device and gain access to the private information you have stored in it. These kinds of threats are called Malware. Some examples of what they do are: - Steal your contacts and pictures - Track your location - Access your text messages - Log your keystrokes and passwords - Send SMS messages to premium numbers without your knowledge that can result in a very high phone bill - Fake legitimate banking applications and steal your personal banking information when you log in

I consider AVG to be scareware. I'm sure I'll be corrected but Android/generic_malware seems to be made up by AVG.

That's an easy fix. Remove the crapware known as AVG.

Do you use an alternative, out of interest? I'm new to Android!

Of course not, don't be silly. We just slate your choices and don't offer an alternative here.

You don't need antivirus on a phone. I visit the 7 seas several times a day and if I've not contracted a virus in the last 6+ years you'll be absolutely fine.
If you're just installing apps from the app store there's no way to get a virus. Don't be worried or listen to the scaremongering.
Welcome to Android. Enjoy the freedom
