Student bloody beans, so unfair. I have NUS and Unidays :disappointed:

How can you have Unidays but not studentbeans?

It is even better value than the note 8. Probably best value phone money can buy. Hot

The best phone money can buy is the Xiaomi Mi 6, for 100-150 less you get the same processor, same RAM, dual cameras with portrait mode, a very speedy OS (I get some prefer stock but I like MIUI for its many themes and little perks)
Plus, OP were proven to be cheating in bench tests, so they've lost my respect as an avid phone geek.
But, for what it is, this brings the price down a bit for a few. Hot for the deal, but barely warm for the phone itself imo, they cheated and played safe.

camera is meant to be woeful?

I wouldn't call that woeful, although I'll admit the low light pics are good, but not amazing.

At least the dual camera works, the OP secondary camera only work in good light. The OP camera Also has focous, white balance and colour reproduction issue. Mediocre is the word that fits it best.

I'm aware of the Mi 6. As an owner of a xiaomi phone, I am a fan. But for peace of mind and convenience I stopped buying from China. For a phone like Mi 6, the risk is too high, support is broken. I bought another Chinese phone which started to overheat. To get a replacement has been more hassle than it's worth. If it was my phone, I would have serious problems. My business relies on communication. The wait and risk for me wasn't worth it.
I read about the bench mark cheating, that is why I never rely on them. I rely on real life test. Comparison with another phone running everyday apps and games. If I remember correctly, the oneplus 3 beat the Samsung s7 in most test. Based on these comparison I purchased oneplus 3 for my wife.

So because a different Chinese phone from a smaller and less reliable manufacturer overheated, you don't trust Xiaomi?
Fair enough on the wait time and risk, as there is a 1 week minimum and no warranty, that's a given.

No not at all. I see them on par with the major phone manufacturers. But they are far from being perfect. Same goes for the likes of Samsung and apple. It's a risk

Most phones are better "value" than the note 8 but they are nowhere near as good.

Great deal, would buy one but I'm still using my OnePlus One I bought years ago at launch. Phone still feels brand new and running LineageOS helps nicely too.

I'm still using my OnePlus One as well. Doesn't run as fast as before but still perfectly usable for day to day tasks.

Try LineageOS if you have some spare time to kill. Literally changed my device and its nice having the latest updates such as Nougat & Oreo coming later. Battery life has improved too

This now makes the OP5 a good deal and is really the maximum price OP should have charged for a device very similar to the previous OP3T. It seems any member of the household can buy this phone as long as they have access to the Student Beans family member's account.
I wonder where this leaves potential O2 customers who are students, are O2 going to price match this deal?

If this was an NUS-based discount, I probably would have taken the plunge.
For me, the OP5 failed to deliver after some huge hype and was overpriced for the spec. The 'student discount' makes it almost reasonable, but given it is already available direct from manufacturer in other regions for less and given I cant get a student beans account, ill let this one slide. Its not significantly cheaper than the S8 can be bought for and given the Samsung warranty and support are far superior, I cant bring myaelf to pick up this handset unless it feels like im actually getting a good deal.

What other regions can I get it from where it's cheaper? No where that get import duty, btw.
