Does anyone know if the Kinect would work as a substitute for a headset for chatting to people in multiplayer? I don't really like wearing headsets but I do need to tell my people that I've had sexual relations with their female relatives when they beat me at Forza. It's obviously got a mic so maybe it would work

Just remember, if you have an Xbox One S then you need an adapter for this to work. It costs £28 from CEX. Microsoft offered a free adapter for those upgrading from an original Xbox One to an S model but this ended back in March.
I didn't know this and wasn't told by CEX instore when I bought it, had to drive back to return it within the 48 hour limit for a credit note.

These used to be £22 each as I recently bought both the Kinect and adaptor. Already have Kinect at home but grabbed them for the One X

I'm considering upgrading to an s but I'm a bit pee'd off I need to pay extra to get my kinect working with it. I wonder if I complained to MS CS whether they'd offer the cable for free

Mate, the MS customer service in Ireland would have hgelped you gladly, but since then its been shut down, as has the BEST one in phillipines. It's all been replaced by the one in romania. Will you get anything out of them? Take a wild guess.

How much is the adapter?

I wonder if the adapter deal will be available again once the One X is released, I hope so, don't really want to have to give up the kinect.

I managed to get one for free using the upgrade program, came this week! But the console upgrade had to be within 30 days of purchase to qualify

Does that mean kinect is dying, if the latest console doesn't support it without an adaptor? Is it a technical that hasn't taken off?

Kinect was dead on arrival hence Microsoft dumping it, software and hardware wise.

I used to sing Kinect's praises.. but they keep removing its functionality the only thing left for it IMO is the voice control and interaction MS might as well release a 3D microphone for this now as the camera has pretty much zero functionality anymore..

Do they still make the Kinect at all?
Does anyone know what the connection is like on the Xbox 1X? Still needs the same adapter as the 1S?

A brilliant idea, sadly now completely useless due to a complete lack of support, not least from MS themselves.
A real shame.

Except it's not completely useless is it? All the functions it used to have... Guess what? It still has them...
It might not have any NEW features or games, but everything that has ever been made for it, and all the functions (voice commands etc) all still work.
Mine is still in use all the time. And Kinect Adventures is a blast of fun.

Yes it does, but it's not an effective way to chat on Xbox live at all. It's very sensitive to background noise, and not good at differentiating between you and your washing machine, cat dog, kids, girlfriend, friend's wife, and your TV volume - it's super annoying for others that have to listen to.
Although a good price, unless you want to play the fitness or dance games it's pretty much useless in my experience. I disconnected mine out of paranoia I would accidentally end up broadcasting myself playing Tomb Raider in my underpants
