Been a major Uncharted fan from the beginning, and agree that 2 is all round, best of the series.
This however, is a game nobody asked for, two boring charterers plucked solely to make a PC statement by the devs; a sign of the times, expect this game to be sub tenner in 3 months.
Would've been much more interesting to have a backstory on Sully.

I was under the impression that Chloe was a fan favourite. And some were disappointed that she wasn't in 4. Wouldn't say "nobody" asked for this.

Your own opinion and you are entitled to it. Whilst I personally agree that UC2 was the best in the series I have always felt that Chloe as a lead in a spin off would be great even before any announcement of this game, far from boring a character, the stand off love triangle of Elena, Chloe and Nate are reasons behind the humour that made some of the storyline of UC2 so great.
Obviously (no spoilers for anyone reading) the standard story arc of Uncharted has now come to an end, and I would agree a further backstory on Sully (aside the one in UC3) would be great, as would back stories on other characters, time will tell but it is clear Naughty Dog have intentions to carry on the franchise with side stories.
I don't think Naughty Dog have done this game to make any politically correct statement, plenty of female protagonists in video gaming in recent years, Horizon: Zero Dawn being one of this years top sellers.
Having only introduced Nadine in UC4 and taking the option to further a storyline on events after UC4, the relationship/stand off of these two protagonists I feel will be interesting.

Hardly a refutation of what I said, kinda what I was screaming when I said '...a sign of the times...' Horizon: Zero Dawn was clearly a PC statement, so too was Overwatch on multiple levels, this list is exhausting, as you say.
It's no different in comics or movies, what with Spider Man being both black and gay in the comic and who can forget ghostbusters 2016?
Indeed, as you've noticed the huge upswing, tell me is it pure coincidence or is there an underlying ideological drive?
I didn't mind a healthy variance in the selection of protagonists, but the overt war on white males is getting exhausting, especially with long standing, well established characters such as in Ghostbusters.
We've just had the new Doctor revealed, tell me massive coincidence, or part of an ideological push? I don't mind too much here, as it is plausible.

I think you are vastly overthinking, hardly a sign of the times with video gaming...would you have been saying the same thing ten years ago when Heavenly Sword was released? Or twenty years ago with Aya Brea in Parasite Eve? Or thirty years ago we had *shock horror* female rip off protagonists 'The Great Giana Sisters' banned by Nintendo.

Umm, what part of 'I didn't mind a healthy variance in the selection of protagonists...', flummoxed you?
Lara Croft is mostly an excellent franchise, with a few duffs, not a big fan of the Metroid games but I grant it's major in the HoF. In movies as well, I've got no problem when it feels organic and unforced, take Ridley Scott's Alien, one of my favorite films of all time.
What we have is far from organic today though, with creators just taking existing franchises and butchering them, or insisting that every cast is a perfect pizza pie of diversity, to pretend otherwise just make you look naive.
Look even the people scratching their heads and saying 'Waahh, I don't know what you mean, know full well what I'm talking about'. It's things like this; youtube.com/wat…MJc

3, 1, 4, 2 for me...2 i found to be just super boring, dont really understand how its everyones favourite...it just drags and drags and just waves and waves of enemies every section of the game. 3 was alot more enjoyable switching up the gameplay often from chapter to chapter, loved the London stuff at the start, and the Drake as a child stuff, and the later parts in the desert and drugged up lol!

They ended Nate's story pretty well with 4, a DLC starring Nate wouldn't have made sense. Instead they've made a DLC starring fan favourite Chloe who was conspicuous for her absence in UC4. It's ended up being a standalone release as it's so big but people who bought the season pass get it for free. If you think she's being shoehorned in you just don't know the games.

Back on the PS3, I thought UC1 was an awkward, cheap Tomb Raider rip-off... Coming back to play the remasters, the control is excellent and (giving it a fair go this time), the story is brilliant
Uncharted did rip-off Tomb Raider (did Tomb Raider rip off Indiana Jones?) but it bettered it in *almost every way, forcing the Tomb Raider series to do an exceptional job with the 2013/2014 reboot.

lol. Yeah I would love a Sully a spin off with him tearing through South America in the old days. He was in 4 plenty though and Chloe wasn't given any send off at all so her being the protagonist of the dlc makes the most sense to me. Would have rather have Cutter than Nadine though.

1 Aug 17#45
No, I was just asking a question because the op stated "Initial impressions of this game are that it's much bigger than a traditional spin off" and I had heard it was 10 hours long so I wondered if it had been extended?

I may be wrong but I think they tweaked Uncharted 1 for the remaster it definitely seemed to play better than I remembered it. The Tombraider reboot and it's sequel were great(and very well optimised on PC) but I kinda wish they'd make a retro style one as well now. I quite enjoyed Underworld

I somehow managed to play UC2 before UC1 so that was a horrible experience but yeah the controls in the remaster of UC1 were excellent, made it a much better game second time round. Seeing as UC ripped off TR (which did rip off Indiana Jones) which prompted TR to up it's game and release an excellent game, surely it's now for someone to remake a brilliant Indiana Jones game?

Don’t believe I was the one to bring Tomb Raider into the discussion; that was a detractors example lol!
...and in any case, what’s so bad about an attractive female character, if you can call 6 polygons attractive! Indeed, by the time she had come anywhere close to resembling a human being, she had a pretty fleshed out personality and backstory.

I said a backstory to Sully would've been far more interesting, besides Nate himself, he's certainly the most pivotal character. He's Nate's long time friend who's acted as a mentor and guardian, always having his back. Sure Chloe and co could've been in that, but I don't think it can be disputed that he'd of made a better focus. I mean how goddamn old is he, he must have so many stories to tell!
