Bought one of these for my son a few weeks ago, very poorly made with cheap components, had to take it back in the end.

For £80 I don't know what people expect.
However in the last few years in mountain biking there has been a move away from 26 inch wheel size with 650B and 29ers. This means that there are some real bargains out there as there is nothing wrong with 26ers, I picked up a Genesis Core 50 (£1400) that was 5 years old for £150 (with orginal receipts - so no it wasn't nicked).
So please don't go fro crap like this and check out Gumtree and ebay

I got one of these a couple of years ago and used it for a 5 mile round trip to work for a year, some of it on muddy tracks. Zero maintenance except for tyre pressure and chain oil, nothing broke and I had no worries about theft when left at work. Bottom bracket clunks a bit now, but it's still fine for occasional use. I paid £70 and think it's a good deal.

My nephew had one of these, not too good but ok. Price is always around the £80 which is supposedly half price, and it will drop and drop, we got it for around £20 instore Tesco couple of years ago, these reductions happen ever year like clockwork.

I commute 20 mile to work on my 1997 Specialized Rockhopper (had it from new). Its value on Gumtree is about £50 if I'm lucky, but it's still a far superior bike than this. For this sort of money I'd buy a decent 2nd hand one rather than new.

Don't do it - you'll regret it! These cheap supermarket bikes are poorly made and guaranteed to provide lots of hassle.
A well made bike isn't expensive these days (a little over £100 - see Decathlon) and there are some real bargains second hand if you know what you're looking at.

If you were looking to convert a bike to an e-bike this would make a decent frame to do it.

Would it? It's not even got disc brake mounts

For around about the same money you would be better off with this.
The quality is about the same but Halfords will set it up for you, assemble it, adjust the brakes, correct spoke tension if they have to and generally make sure it is safe to ride. After 6 weeks use Halfords will give it a service making sure everything is working correctly and replacing anything that is faulty. The only slight difference is the Tesco bike has a triple chainset and more gears but with this level of drivetrain you are probably better off without the triple chainset and still gives a good range of gears. These basic Tesco bikes often need careful checking and assembly and if you don't have those skills then the Halfords bike is simply a much better option.
Obviously if you can spend more and get a better bike with better components but if your budget is around £90 go with the Halfords bike.

You just need mount adapters which cost about £10. Can also just use the v brakes. The 250w legal limit wont propell you much faster than you can peddle anyway so they should be sufficient but will wear out much faster.

Mount adaptors? Nothing to bolt into and the hubs would also need replacing to allow for disc rotors,
I personally think adding an engine to this bike would be a death trap

The brake disks mount between the wheel nuts and the brake assembly mounts to the wheel frame using the universal mount adapter, theres plenty of youtube videos showing it.
Yeah yeah its dangerous because its a bike shapped object not a bike ect ect blah blah iv heard enough of that crap from elitist cylist nobs to last a lifetime. I bought a super cheap bike off sportsdirect 7 or 8 years ago for about £45 and its rrp was less than the £160 this one used to be and its still going strong and no one has ever died on it. I gave it to a mate who wanted to convert it with an electric motor kit from ebay and he did and he uses the v brakes the only change he made was respraying the frame because the paint was peeling and putting road tyres on it.
Cycling is like everything in life, buy the best you need or want for the money you have, personally I wouldn't ride a pos like this but if I was driving to the park with kids and having a 20-45 min ride then it is perfectly fine, the longer and rougher terrain you ride the bike will soon be out it's comfort zone.
Like a rain jacket, I can get a cheap one for £15 it might not work, doesn't matter out at the shops or local pub, but if I'm in the middle of nowhere up a big hill/mountain and the weather turns then a £100 goretex will keep me dry and warm.
As with this bike I certainly wouldn't take it on mountains or the Pennines/Peak District , that said i wouldnt exceed 25 mph on it either, wouldn't trust the components to not fail.
