Not the best lawnmower in the world - but hey - IT'S £99 !!!

Decent for self propelled.

I'll add my tuppence worth. I bought an unbranded Chinese lawnmower a few years ago from Homebase or B&Q or somewhere similar. I got a couple or three years out of it and then got problems-a carburetter problem I think, I rang around, put the mower into the car and drove around, long story short, no-one wanted to touch it. Parts were ungettable (is that a word?).

I spoke to a local garden machinery/agricultural dealer. In short if it wasn't Mountfield or Briggs & Stratton powered then people were loath to have a look at it due to unavailability of parts. I bought a Mountfield powered mower that day and since then the missus hasn't had a moment's trouble with it (she loves mowing the lawn, it's like Hoovering but outside in the sun), the difference is that I've got the word of a local reputable dealer that all parts are available should I require them in the event of things going wrong.

I'm not slagging unbranded generic Chinese mowers, I certainly got my money's worth over the two or three summers before it went wrong, I'm saying build my experience into your purchase decision-if it last longer than it should then brilliant, if it doesn't last too long you have your guarantee to fall back on, just don't expect too much from the price point.

Good price I purchased a Sovereign lawnmower 5years ago and no issues at all.

Aldi one at £179.99 a few months ago ...3 year warranty on it.....like the man said its like the missus hoovering but in the sun she's a happy one ....and its a decent build quality ...The mower that is.... :wink:

I think the carb had gone on mine, sourcing an unbranded equivalent carb from China was never going to be straightforward.

The downside of something proving ultra reliable is that you find it's harder to find excuses to treat yourself to a newer, flashier model. :smiley:

Did anybody on here actually buy one of these?

Was thinking about picking one up to replace my temperamental 1980's Petrol Flymo that has a problem with the governor vane not keeping the revs up high enough.

I read a few reviews abotu Soevereign lawn mowers and it appears that some of them came with Mountfield or Briggs & Stratton engines?

Do this one have a generic unbranded Chinese engine?

Have had a sovereign Mower 15 years and it's just started playing up its never been serviced never had a oil change no nothing it's just started cutting out and not starting easily. It's been fantastic and I bet if it gets a service it will be fine again.
