I notice this is only a tenner off the normal price, so it is hardly a hot deal (so in that respect I can't endorse it as being hot). It is surprising how much technology may be had for a small price, but there are much more capable (in their own ways) SLR cameras at this price or less so I wonder at the wisdom of buying a bridge camera (unless one will never need interchangable lenses but has a requirement for more than a compact camera).

Notice that Wex are now offering this with an additional 12 months Sony Warranty for the same price so have posted this also a its a better deal. With the £70 Sony cashback + the extra Warranty thrown in, think this is a great deal. One of the things about this camera is that the 24-200mm lens is a constant f2.8 over the entire focal length.

I for one wouldn't want, nor know how or when to change lenses as only the "photographer types" understand such things. That's where a bridge camera comes in pick up the camera without any forward planning about lenses for the situation and just go and take photos.
I guess what I'm saying is a high quality bridge camera is SLR quality without the hassle.
But then you might just as well buy an RX100 with the same size sensor and a brighter lens. Buying a bridge camera like this with a 1 inch sensor is pointless unless you want to just "look" like you have a DSLR, if you really need such a long zoom, whether it be for whatever, a 1inch sensor wont do.

I thought the constant aperture lens on this wasn't available on the RX100 (low light?)

for me this camera is a no no, if i was spending a fair amount on a large zoom camera which isn't particularly compact id want at least double the zoom of this
quite a specialist camera

Actually you are quite right! I had not realised this was a constant aperture - my apologies I assumed such a long zoom would have to be variable! I retract my comment and stand corrected.
EDIT : Actually the RX100 III is f1.8 to f2.8, so if you dont need the zoom then this may be better for some. I've left my retraction through as f2.8 constant aperture is still better than I thought!

you want more zoom you choose a bigger lens... you want to change lens then look at the manual... not hard
inconvenient but lack of thinking isnt really an argument
depends which rx100 as some max out at the same aperture as this ones minimum

I am not very clued up on cameras but all I want is a camera than can do good image in decent light, however it must also be capable of high quality video of a brightly lit stage from a dark seating area without becoming washed out. If the RX100 would do then I prefer that form factor but I was leaf to believe it was all about the aperture.
