Hi - I am expecting a cold front. but hopeful that people can see what I see (or tell me I am misguided!). After a massive amount of deliberation I bought two of these this weekend after watching 2nd hand versions of the same white Play 5s being sold on eBay at much higher prices and without a 24 month warranty you get with this.
If there is any interest, I will let you know what condition they arrive in but CeX have been good to me to date... fingers crossed again.
Posted as a deal as one is back in stock. Also worth keeping an eye on Grade A at only £20 more (but none in stock).
You could always buy a skin if it has surface damage. Amazon Link

I'm genuinely surprised at how much this costs bearing in mind it's secondhand and gen 1. I bought 6x gen 2's in January for £350 each new so to me I feel this is more than I'd expect to pay. Not knocking your decision or anybody else's choice as the price hike has made Sonos overpriced in my opinion and I wouldn't have bought into them at current prices so it's all personal

Yes they bumped prices after brexit. Marks electric were 430odd a few weeks ago. Would definitely need a richer sounds demo before parting with 450 plus new

Agree. I purchased my Sonos before the price hike. I definitely won't be purchasing anymore at the ridiculous new prices. They have priced themselves out of the market. Although it is a very good product.

Thank you both - I hope it doesn't come to needing the skins - but a good option I was not aware of. On the new Play 5s for £350 each, that is a great price. At least as I have a Connect Amp that I will trade in (the two Play 5s as a stereo pair are replacing it), I at least benefit from the 2nd hand value of that being pretty good to balance these. Cheers again

OOS - seems someone bought the last so I assume needs to be expired - I have pressed the button. Thanks for the votes (hot and cold).

The fact CeX announces that they pay just £133 for these should set alarm bells ringing. And if you've seen a 'grade B' from them before you wouldn't even dream of buying it blind, best to see that kind of product in the flesh.

I think it varies depending on the store you buy from to be honest. I've just had a chromebook 'grade b' and it is absolutely unmarked, as new, but with no original packaging.
I honestly can't believe the prices they offer to buy at though, they are ludicrous across the board.

Whereas I bought a Grade B Play:5 Gen 2 and the back button was non-existent! Went direct to sonos though instead of cex as they have excellent customer service. New replacemt unit arrived a week later.

Although I am in no way affiliated to CeX or Sonos, I must say that I have some sympathy with both. If I had to sell technical gadgets at a profit, I cannot blame them too much. Sonos' price increase is galling, agreed, but to be fair they warned their customers a few weeks beforehand if I recall, and most, not all, is due to Brexit/pound weakness. I don't think they had much of a choice, because their components are probably entirely $ or € based and to keep margins and to avoid consumers in Europe buying the less profitable units in the UK, the prices had to increase (same annoying story with Apple).
My thoughts on the condition of the units is that although I am buying blind, I can always return to my local shop and get my money back as an emergency brake and I have the 24 month warranty, which gives me massive comfort versus eBay.

I agree prices needed to go up within the industry due to brexit/currency conversion etc but I also feel that Sonos should be doing more to compete with the other brands which are far cheaper than them for similar standard equipment now that they've pretty much caught up.
Yes Sonos created an entirely new market sector, they owned it and showed the others how to do it for a long while but now competition are pretty much up to speed they should've maybe started to compete on price a bit more and took a bit of a hit in their profit per product rather than take a hit on their sales which is surely what is happening now. Can't see it working as people will only ever pay so much for something before they look elsewhere
