Primera Air have just added a new route to their airline!
They are direct flights to New York - Newark (EWR) from Birmingham International (BHX) or Stansted Airport (STN)
Prices start from £226 per person. Here is an example of a return trip from London for dates 27 May to 31 May 2018 (5 nights) in the May half term!
Many more dates available! (excited)
Please note that this only includes 10kg hand luggage.
There is also a £9 fee when paying for the flights by card but not if you make a bank transfer. (flirt)
These are bound to sell fast so get booking! (party)
Hope this helps many! See you in New York! (y)

You don't need to prebook seats, buy 2 boots meal deals each way, use carry on if it's only for a few days - £160 saved

Do it people. You won't regret it!!

Checking hotel prices now-brilliant find! Did NY in this time frame in 2015 on a deal from her and had a brilliant time! Worth checking Travelzoo nearer the time and book something refundable now. We got the Holiday Inn Madison square gardens for 791.00 for 3 people for 6 nights which included breakfast from Travelzoo at that time

Hotel prices much higher now partly due to exchange. Very few under £200 a night that are decent.

Hi, I'm finding the staybridge for just over 1K which is surprising, but yeah generally the exchange rate is leaving a lot to be desired as you say ;(
Bags and seat selection each cost a staggering $45 per flight, and a hot meal starts at $40 all the way up to $70. WHAT?!
Those prices are simply outrageous for a leisure airline, and put their prices well-above most of the legacy carriers operating between these markets.
Each passenger will get one free carry-on weighing up to 10kg, with dimensions not exceeding 54cmx45cmx25cm.
It doesn’t sound like they’ll have seatback entertainment screens, which puts them in the league of WOW Air, but below Norwegian and LEVEL. They will, however, have wifi for a fee.

Apologies - just remembered seeing the Express and Star bemoaning the lack of flights to the US now from BHX. No mention of a replacement. United flights were pretty rubbish in my experience.

Is there a better way to search this than just putting in random dates?

22 Jul 17#28
yes once you put in a date you can use the arrows on the left/right to see prices for like 5 days either side. Thats about as good as it gets for this kinda site.

I stayed in the Broadway hotel/hostel in the upper Westside.you can get private rooms if you like. I love that area around 91st street.
The HI hostel is also very good..especially if travelling alone. They have social nights ..i made friends all over the world and have visited them since.

Genuinely tempted at this rate - any good Airbnb options someone can recommend? How many days do we need in NY without being hassled - 2 kids with me too? Thanks a lot

I didn't fancy any of the airbnb options, but we managed to get Sun/Mon night in the Hilton Garden Inn E 34th (couple of mins walk Times Sq/Empire State) for £120 a night this May half term by constantly checking different sites and messing around with dates. Hotwire also got us a great deal on an unknown hotel (managed to work it out with some TA research) £90 for the Holiday Inn at JFK. Also found a Friday night at the a Intercontinental Barclay for £140. Be flexible and play around with dates and you'll find something.
if you fancy a trip out with the kids, we hired a car after 3 days of the city and drove out to the Great Wolf Lodge, Poconos PA which was fantastic. Book in advance and register with their website to use code ESAVE (published on their site) and get rooms for under $150 a night including waterpark. Car hire from Jersey city ($20 by Uber) was about £100 for 4 nights. Plenty of decenthotels out that way for $60ish
So so much more possible to a NY trip than just looking at skyscrapers!

Airbnb is illegal in the 5 boroughs of New York, they are either a con and dont exist or you run the risk of been thrown out.

You get a seat for free - they won't make you stand
Fairly sure it's possible to go 6 hours without plane food - take a meal deal on board from Boots, take 2 just to be safe.
Bags are optional - you can get quite a lot in hand luggage.

737 - a bit like what Norwegian use. No thanks.
Actually no - upon further investigations it an A321. Good enough for a hop to the East Coast.
2x2 cabin in the front and 3x3 in the rear. Good thing about an A321 is the exit row seats are of the unlimited leg room variety.

I live in Koreafor 9 months of the year, going 6 hours+ without food on long haul is standard.
For the 10 hour 30 minute flight from Seoul to London you get 2 meals, unless you request more.

I think flights to the US are so cheap not because people are put off by the idea of giving up their soul on entry just so Trump can be sure you're not a Muslim.
As close as I am to Stansted I'm not interested, but thanks for posting.

I would be extremely wary about paying by bank transfer: If the airline goes bust (fair chance of that for a new budget airline) then you won’t get refunded - whereas you will if paying by credit card.

Agreed 100% - and with the ban on credit card surcharges proposed this week you should be able to claim the extra cost back too before you fly anyway.

Great deal, would love to visit but the exchange rate is a killer on high accommodation costs. Visited San Francisco in May and was overwhelmed by the cost of everything, you can do it on a budget if you are prepared to use bus and local transport also try hostel accommodation. Unless you have somewhere to stop my advise is check the accommodation prices out before you book.

Heat added and booked for May half term. 2 adults and 2 kids for £1289 including 2 bags each way. That's going Saturday to Saturday but there were cheaper options, especially coming back on the Thursday.
After a quick look, seems to be some decent Brooklyn airbnb places around the £100 per night mark.

Don't believe everything you read. I used airbnb last time I was there, did my homework on the location and with the renter and worked out perfectly. I'm sure many many others have had exactly the same experience too. Also rejected by some renters as my feedback wasn't high enough being a new user, which suggests they are likely professional renters and looking for those who are reliable.

If you can live with not being right in the throng of Manhatten, and want to save a packet on hotels, I highly suggest people look at staying in Long Island City (LIC), in the borough of Queens.
It is about 3-4 (10 mins) stops on the subway to Central Park and similar to Time Square.
It is a bit like staying in Zone 2 of London. You also get some amazing views of Manhattan, across the river.
There are a number of budget chain hotels like Quality Inn, Best Western, Howard Johnson, Days Inn and La Quinta.
I have stayed at the Nesva and Quality Inn hotels, and they offer good quality rooms with private bathrooms and free breakfast and no more than 5 -10 mins from the subway that runs 24 hours. The area is quite industrialised, so not pretty, but felt very safe walking on my own in the neighbourhood.
