There seem to be quite a lot of VPNs around at the moment. I think it really depends on whether they will still be around in years to come and on the number of points throughout the world that they can maintain. I don't use this one but the one I use which is quite a lot cheaper (isn't available now) but seems ok so far. What you probably should do first is check your ip address with something like: iplocation.net/fin…ess. This dould give you your real ip address and approximate location. Then start up the vpn, choose a country, in the case of this one you should wait until the facility gives "connected (ip-anonymous)" This may take a few minutes. Then check your ip address, it should give another ip and a location in the country of choice. If it doesn't then wait or use another connection. Don't run anyrhing sensitive until you get the VPN to connect. FWIW, dns seems to be resolved locally,

This is quite a good review of VPNs with some explanation of why a normal person might need one. (RA4W is not included) techadvisor.co.uk/tes…32/

This is kinda exactly what is wrong with society. People have too many rights over police officers so police cannot search them willingly. What if a person refused to be searched had a knife and hurt someone close to you?

Not really to be honest, unless the policeman has good reason to believe I have something i shouldn't, I would prefer he didn't come anywhere near me. Nobody has agreed to allow governments to "pat search". Unless there is a very good reason to suspect I am up to no good, I would prefer my internet habits remain unknown.

Your logic is ridiculous you do not trade your freedoms for security. Maybe we do have something to hide but its ours to hide.

If you have nothing to hide you would willingly allow him to do his pat down search (you wouldn't be 'strip' searched unless you was arrested) because the next person might be carrying a knife/gun/bomb. Anyway VPNs are 'mainly' used to circumvent ISP lock outs of illegal movie/tv/music streaming/download sites.

You can pretend to be from other countries and get content that is geoblocked.

Indeed would people be happy having their txt messages phones calls or post looked at it comes down to privacy

At that price and for lifetime its worth a punt.

Because you can't trust the government to put the best interests of the people ahead of their own interests.

A policeman gives you a choice as to whether you want to be strip searched or not. You have nothing incriminating on you. Do you allow him to carry out a strip search even though you have nothing to hide? No... Privacy is privacy regardless of what you are doing, sometimes.

Are you 'genuinely curious'? Why? When it's so easy to find out, just google for 'why use a vpn' For instance: lifehacker.co.uk/201…eds

Why does anyone need a VPN, what do you have to hide? Genuinely curious

Hmm. I don't know why regular users need these services. A 'VPN' service doesn't equal privacy...Even the review linked seems to be written simplistically and with little understanding of what's actually going on. Plus the fact that there appears to have been a database leak from this service which indicates that they indeed do log IP ingress among other things...
