My local Poundland has changed its sign to Poundland and More just recently so maybe this is going to be the new Name.

I think the strategy would have been to start at £1 build a customer base and then gradually raise prices . Cost inflation was always going to cause this problem where they had to move away from the £1 to protect margins. There's only so much product design (reduced weights, quality) you can do. Occasionally they have some value products in there but my experience of that store is in the main thatthe products are junk.eg you get what you pay for

And our local used to sell this kind of thing under a banner of 'Manager's
Special offers' to get round the pricing issue!
