Yes I have one that fades out over the course of 30 minutes, it fades to the lowest brightness, i.e. like nightlight. Other bulbs I have fading out also for 30 minutes and completly turn off.
The one in my bedroom fades in from off to bright day light for 20 minutes in the morning to wake me up like natural daylight - useful in the winter months.

@pulseturbo this set comes with a sensor which would work well for what you describe.
The app looks pretty easy to use and set schedules. Take a look at some of the unboxing and examples on YouTube.

Can you have multiple apps controlling these? Also how easy is it to set for turning on when I come home and off when I leave?
My example I'm thinking of is it'd be nice for the hallway light to turn on when I get in (and vice versa), but also I have a lodger, who'd want to do similar to me in my second scenario - being able to turn all the lights required on, then just turn them off when you get in to your bedroom. Possible?

They are expensive, yes, but hugely useful for us.
We have a town house with our bedroom on the top floor, this means that if we are going out, we don't need to check if we left the lights on, we simply turn everything off on the app or the motion sensor does it for us.
It offers security - you can remotely turn them on and off over the internet (or see if they are on when you arent home!)
It's great for a film night - you just set the bulbs to a low dim.
You can sell them or take them with you when you move..
We also have ours paired with an Amazon Dot.
Additionally, these would be great for my mum who has extreme difficulty getting around.
A negative - if you are prone to areas with powercuts, do not put these in your bedroom or you WILL be woken up at 100% brightness.
I hope this helps some.

Think im another one for the confused camp. I'm all for smart innovations for the home that can save you money and energy like Hive and others, but this seems very overpriced for what is a very niche gadget. I dont think ive ever thought to myself that I wish my living room lights were blue or red instead of the standard white. I guess its a bit like the iPad where if you really looked at it, its very overpriced, but once you have one you wouldnt be without, not for me though.

I don't get it. £120 for a couple of bulbs with the ability to turn them on and off with your phone? Is that it? i get they change colour but why would you need that unless you are a hooker and need to get a red light in the window?

Are you comparing it to the standard 2 bulb starter pack? There's a world of difference between the standard bulbs and the ambience! It very much depends on your needs, how you operate your existing bulbs, where the bulbs will be going etc. E.g if these were going in ceiling fittings normally operated by a light switch on the wall, and the only "smart" product you have to control them is the app on your phone...however quick you make that process (e.g widgets on your home screen, routines etc) it will, after the 'wow this is cool' phase has passed, become irritating to use your phone if routines don't work for you and you don't carry your phone around with you...and then the switches on the wall get used rendering the system useless.
If you're going to go for the basic one it would be wise to factor in the cost of a dimmer switch/echo dot/GH or motion sensor.
I don't use the hue motion sensor so I don't know its capabilities within the hue system but I'm sure it would be a very welcome addition! Motion switching for me personally makes my system far more useable and wife friendly. The only problem being you'd probably want to add more!
Colour Vs white - I thought colour was tacky and gimmicky initially but I've got to admit I do like mood lighting now using subtle colours. I paid £50 for 1 colour bulb! (LIFX) expensive impulse buy but I don't regret it, the Mrs is a moody cow and it does help with her moods :man:
So I'd say yes it is worth £70 more for 3 colour bulbs & a motion sensor but it *will* end up costing you more than that
format
4 Jul 17#58
fair point, but is 3 colour changing bulbs and the motion sensor worth £70 extra (more than twice as much) as the basic ? honest question as i want to get a smart home setup and all reviews have said phillips hue is damn expensive but very good quality and app support

Because........ Apart from setting colour themes for each individual light, they can turn on by themselves as I approach the house and turn off (Geofencing) when I leave. I can turn them on and off via an app on my mobile when I'm not at home. You can put every light on and off in the house with one press or just use the sensors.
You can also set them to come on and go off at a set time and as I mentioned, in any colour to suit your mood.
I wouldn't be without them now.

Currently house hunting and want to get ready by purchasing stuff like this in advance.
Do all UK homes use the same light fittings? If so, which ones?
If not, how easy are they to change or should I just hold out till I'm actually in a house instead of maybe getting the incorrect fitting bulbs?

Some are screw sockets, some bayonet. You can't be sure till you buy.

In my experience, main pendant-style ceiling lights tend to be B22 (bayonet) fittings and wall lights are usually screw-thread, so either E14 or E27. Lamps can use any of those, although E14 bulbs are very common in table and bedside lamps, due to their much smaller size. Downlighters, commonly found in kitchens or bathrooms, use GU10 or GU5.3 bulbs.
There are exceptions though - certain types of main ceiling lights can take E27 bulbs and IKEA, for example, tend to use screw-thread bulbs in all their lights.
You can buy adaptors to convert one fitting to another, but these add bulk and length to a bulb which isn't always desirable. Light fittings are often easy to change (as easy as wiring a plug in many cases) but a basic knowledge of household electrics is advisable.

Excuse my ignorance....but is this worth getting if I have the Hive heating system?! I'm guessing it just means I have to run it off two apps and systems rather than the one? I've been debating about getting the lighting system but wondering whether it's worth waiting for a Hive compatible system.

Any bulbs that come as part of a starter set will be tied to that bridge

Actually you can pair them without unpairing first, you just need to type the serial numbers on the bulbs in to the app.
loquerion to Sirlisterofsmeg
3 Jul 171#27
That is *definitely* untrue... I have got 12 Hue colour and 6 Hue white, coming from 4 different starter kits, all running on a single V2 bridge.
You do need to add them using their MAC address via the app, but no different between this and new bulbs.
Are there any other restrictions or things which could cause this?
