As far as I’m aware, 4K blu rays are region free but these players will be region locked for standard bluray and dvds. Silly, I know. :smile:

But do I keep the ub700 ordered 30 minutes ago at £199, or change to this newer version at £24 less

update.... cancelled UB700 @ £199 and ordered UB400 @ £175. This new player performs the same as the older players according to most reviews (everyone should take anything what hifi says with a large pinch of salt)

The ub700 has a gigabit ethernet port on the back, I the ub400 is only 100 megabit, from what i know that is the only difference, against the more expensive 700, on the plus side the 400 has a couple of new features that the 700 does not have, i cant remember what they are of the top of my head.lol.

Spot on, buy an Xbox one S, which you can get a great £180 bundle on here with extra controller and game. Sell the spare controller for £30, so basically pay £150 for a 4k player....and a console. Instead of this £175 for just a player. Madness

Depends. These play 4K discs correctly whereas the Xbox One S’ gamma curve isn’t outputting correctly (which affects the HDR quality). Picture and sound quality are better on these too. All depends if you’ll notice these things but the Xbox One S isn’t anywhere near as good as these. There are also issues with some discs freezing and refusing to play on the Xbox One S too.
If you want just a dedicated 4K blu ray player then I’d go with one of the Panasonic players. If you don’t think you’ll notice the difference in sound and picture quality and want a games console then maybe the Xbox One S would be better. :smiley:

- UHD disks have no region coding
- Blu Rays are region-sensitive, so would imagine only plays region-free or Region B disks.
- For DVDs, it probably isn't region-free 'out of the box' but you can get service remotes from EBay for about £12 that make the machine region-free in a couple of minutes.
I bought the UB700 a couple of weeks ago, from Hughes, for £225 (Father's Day sale), and would highly recommend it.

Are there any 4K players without a chassis fan? I find the fans noisy and distracting.

The UB700 order is cancelled now. But I would love to know if you have personal experience with both ? Better play in what way ? AV Forums and HDTV test could not find any difference other than the UB400 having a few better buttons on the remote
Oh and I have an LG 65C6 so I do appreciate quality, but I think buying the older 700 here would have been placebo

Picture and sound quality is the same from what I hear. It’s mainly down to the player’s build quality and little things like the LED front display on the player. It all depends if the extra £24 is worth that to yourself. It was those little things that pushed me towards the UB700 but I’m fussy. :stuck_out_tongue:
Whichever you choose between the two, you can’t go wrong really. :smiley:

The LG UP970 is also a good deal at £220 with DV and HDR You-Tube.
But @ £175 you cannot go wrong with this deal. Jump on it before it goes
