Ok so I missed out on the HP omen the other day from john lewis and managed to come across this. Seems decent yes it's older graphics to the 1050 but not much difference in performance. everything else the same apart from this does have a type C port which some people may prefer.
Anyway let me know what you guys think and for haters please post a better deal and not just say this is a crap one.

it's a £600 laptop with a 7th gen i5 and a 960.
1080p is what 96%+ of people are using so what's your issue with it? its also IPS so best technology you can get at this sort of price.
8GB RAM is more than enough for at least the next few years.
the fact other configs of this same laptop come with an SSD+HDD i would presume there is another slot (perhaps M.2) for you to add an SSD.

True, never seen anyone play a game on a laptop. 1080ti is a minimum requirement with Titan XP being the recommended.
Plus an i5? I am surprised that can even load windows. You really need hyperthreading for optimal notepad launch speed.

Ok so I missed out on the HP omen the other day from john lewis
I ordered the original £630 deal from John Lewis but it was rejected by the click and collect+ newsagent on Monday 17th and returned to John Lewis on Thursday 20th, they claimed they could not send back out to me until it was checked and put back to stock, nor could it be reserved for me when it was checked. In all honesty their customer service was rubbish and I ended up being refunded on the Friday so there may well be 1 coming back in to stock at some time, i was watching over the weekend and it remained OOS so i bought a different Omen (the one i have posted on here as a deal)

Actually it came back in stock on Wednesday or at least thats when I checked again before taking the plunge on either one. It arrived on Friday and my wife seems pretty pleased with it. Personally it really needs SSD but will be getting one for it shortly. I have bought from JL a few times and been great even with returns but as with any company they will have good and bad. Anyways the Omen only won just with reviews on battery life that tipped me over.

Im holding off upgrading until this 'mining faze' has passed - GPU costs are crazy currently, that being said this is a nice spec for the money but I think if your looking to drop £600+ I would ideally want a 1050 or better as performance improvement and with it future proofing (ps pro and xbox one x will raise the min spec a fair bit going forward) is significant, not that you couldnt play games perfectly well on this system (ignore the elite Pc gamers who disregard anything that cant run every game on ultra settings at 4K and 60fps - you can game perfectly well at 1080p high or medium and even as low at 30fps game type dependent.- honestly 'hairworks and all that other crazy GPU heavy stuff very rarely adds much to the gaming experience.

I bought this back in Feb for about £600 from ebuyer...
I have since added a 240gb m. 2 SSD, and replaced the cd drive with a HDD caddy, where I installed a 2tb SSHD
Brilliant laptop... Sure it's got nothing on my £4k custom pc setup I built for home use, but for a total cost of £900 (after the SSHD and M.2 SSD) I can't knock it.. It does everything I want in a portable gaming laptop

Yes they are but it's unlikely they'd pair a 7700K with a 1050/1050 Ti unless they just needed the bare minimum in Pascal graphics (&had a more CPU intensive workload) that was available at the time, assuming that laptop would be purchased before the MX150 was released.
I wish my laptop had an unlocked CPU, I know that I'll probably get a HK when i upgrade in 4/5 years

Speaking from experience, it's very easy to get sucked into the 'numbers game'. It's nice to have a ridiculously specced PC for gaming, but unless you crave extracting every last bit of detail from a games it's not really necessary.
I sold my old gaming that I build new while back and built a 'budget gaming' rig using second hand components and a £400 budget including new case e.t.c.
Ended up with an i5 2500k @ 4.2GHz (can't be bothered pushing it harder, in the past I had a 2550k I ran at 4.6GHz), 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD, GTX 780ti (may upgrade this to a 980ti once the values drop a bit more), 1440p Korean monitor, 600W EVGA PSU (nothing special but better than a cheapo no-name one).
I have more than enough money to run something ridiculous like a dual 1080ti setup and a 12 core CPU or something else daft but I then find I obsess more about the figures and spend more time benching than I actually do kicking back and enjoying the games.
Oh, as for resolution, I have a 51" Samsung plasma (1024x768) next to my monitor for retro gaming - I swear old console ROMs look so much better on a huge old screen with low resolution than a modern high res screen where you end up having to apply loads of filters e.t.c. to try and emulate the effect of an older screen
How many gamers do you know that use a 15" 1080p screen and only 8gb of ram - proper gamers would laugh at you if you told them that's what you had. To be more future proof you need 4k or at least a better resolution than 1080p
My 2009 spec laptop has a better screen than this.

I second that the MSi Customer service is shocking. MSI GP72 6QF Leopard Pro last August and it had a fault by Christmas. Took forever to get sorted and took nearly 4 weeks to return.
