Loved the previous Mass Effect and was reluctant to pre order this, still feel reluctant at this price.

Same situation here. I don't want to ruin the memory of the old games. I hear the story is the only big let down here, then again I played Destiny for a while and I don't think that had a story.

I actually really enjoy it. Loved the 3 previous ones and this one feels good to play. Haven't finished it yet though, but so far, like it.

Ive played the original trilogy about five times over. Played ME:A for about 25 hours before uninstalling. Got bored waiting for something fun to happen or an interesting story to develop. Soulless game, avoid.

+1 - such a shame. Difficult to understand how the team who made mass effect 1 2 3 basically a masterpiece of game design and story telling could have gotten this so wrong. BTW nothing fun actually happens.. Huge fan of the first 3 games, pre-ordered this, played it to completion, never loaded it up again. Didn't really enjoy it either - I'll never pre-order another game again - this was the first and last time. Waited 5 years for this rubbish. I can only hope they continue making more games in the series and learn from the mistakes of this one. EA bought Bioware some time after ME3 I think, kinda explains this half assed, half finished mess. When you play it you feel like it was rushed and done "on a budget"
boo! :-(

I loved 2 and 3 (found 1 incredibly frustrating and never completed it) but I keep hearing bad things about the storyline. Should I be put off?

Yeah, the writing makes Hollyoaks look like Lord of the Rings in comparison.

From what I gather from friends who have the game it's pretty average, not terrible, just average.
The quests all tend to be of the fetch this and bring it back variety, the story is supposedly weak which is unusual for Bioware.
Tempted to give it a go at this price though.

I've tried a few hours of the trial last week, didn't play on launch as wanted them to iron out the issues.
Even then, its still pretty mediocre :disappointed:
No, its not as bad as superman 64, but it isn't the gem it should have been.
Why didn't they employ writers like they did with the trilogy instead of someone who only knows cliches and wafer thin plots. Shame they got rid of the original crew.
