Not a bad price however you would not go far in terms of quality although I might be wrong as my experience with previous cheap dashcam wasn't very good. Heat added for the price.

The selling point for me for these kinda things is the ability to show a good clear number plate reading image at night.
As we don't know what other model is currently selling out there thats the same as this lidl dashcam, we cannot youtube it.

I'd like to know which cams can grab a legible number plate at night of an oncoming vehicle, I've got the NB415 and it struggles with glare

Can anyone recommend the best camera to get for a budget of £40. Is thus one goodbye enough?

Unfortunately, Lidl don't give enough specs to make a proper judgement, we're not even told the size of the sensor, let alone what chipset it uses, and I haven't seen this model listed on Lidl's offer site before.
The 30fps frame rate at 1080p and 60 at 720p would suggest that it is at least a relatively modern chipset so likely to be true 1080p and use a decent compression codec like h264, rather than 720p interpolated up to 1080p with mjpeg recording like I believe some of lidls previous models were.
My guess is it will be a low end budget chipset, like the General Plus one used in the G1WHT - a later, inferior version of the G1WH, so you may well be able to do a fair bit better if you are prepared to do a bit of research and buy from china. I found the forums here fairly helpful when I was looking for a budget dashcam:- https://dashcamtalk.com
On the up side it does have a 3 year guarantee providing you don't lose the receipt and Lidl is more convenient if you need to take it back.

I'm out
last year - really pleased with it (£32.60 at DX at the moment), it's quite small and although every one goes on about it being chinese - the menus are all pictures so you know what the menus are without having to flash it!
