its a LG 49UH603V 49inch ultra HD 4K smart tv, its on amazon for £419 at the moment, but yesterday the price was £380 so i think the price is flucuating an awful lot, so worthwhile maybe keeping a eye on it

If the item is faulty and you can prove it(by getting an independent report from local repair shop)then you don't require a warranty. You have 6 years in England and I believe 5 years in Scotland.
That said, it will be a lot quicker if you did have a warranty.
I had a faulty Xbox One that was a day one release and well out of warranty but I was compensated by the retailer after having it independently tested.
Anyway back on track.... LG tv's for me are the least reliable in terms of numbers/faulty units but then they do sell a hell of a lot more TV's than the others so... I used to repair them A LOT, along with Samsung and Philips. I have a LG and have had no issues with it but I have repaired the same model countless times. Just your luck at the end of the day with any manufacturer.
They don't make em like they used to....
