I'm personally not a massive fan, my personal JW opinion goes:
Red is paintstripper but fine for mixing
Big fan of Black
Double Black I found far too intense, it was kind of like a mouthful of ash, and considering I like peaty whiskies and love Laphroaig that should say something !
Gold, Green, Platinum all fall into the same boat of I just didn't find them to taste anywhere near as good as they should for their respective prices, I found black the nicer whisky out of the lot of these
Then comes Blue. Worth every penny IMO, but just isn't something most people could afford to drink regularly, but if I could, I would!
I've tried the cheapest travel retail one aswell and also found that to be crap.
For £30 I'd say it's worth a try, but personally I keep going back to standard black!
Hope this helps a little!

There are some tremendous blends, such as some of the stuff being put out by Compass Box. Think you are limiting your whisky experience opportunities by shunning blends entirely!

im glad i didnt buy the platinum one then. I bought a bottle of the green island in duty free last year along with a small bottle of blue which i opened on my 30th. The green island has a nice smoky taste which i really enjoy. The more mature whisky drinkers tend not to favour it though.
Ive recently ventured into single malt which opens up an entirely different world.

Can't even be a snob if that ignorant. Whisky Ignoramus I think you mean. Whisknoramus for short.
