After a lot of looking around for a cordless 2-in-1 to supplement our Dyson DC40, I went for this Hoover FD22G - refurbished for £60 from Vacuums Direct on eBay.
I have to say, we have found it to be pretty good for its intended usage - removing dog hairs from the sofa, doing the stairs, bedrooms, kitchen floor, etc..
20 to 25 minutes run time, battery recharges quickly, and the motorised head can be used in hand-held mode (i.e. without the extension tube) - this is NOT always the case for similar models from other manufacturers.

I bought a Vax from Argos similar to this. I would say don't bother, they're just about OK for picking up very light debris off the floor in the kitchen. I would hope a Dyson which costs a lot more works a lot better.
