Untrustworthy company as soon as your boiler or something else that is expensive fails beyond their liking they blame you and won't repair it. I had my boiler under contract for years with this cowboy firm and the pump failed they claimed I failed to maintain the heating system yet for over 8 years I paid a lot of money for them to look after it. Untrustworthy company

Says in the email that the letter or email depending on what you requested will take a few days.
"We will email you a link to your documents within four working days (unless you have opted to receive a paper version of your documents, in which case they will be posted to you within fourteen working days). Your email or paper documents will include the Terms & Conditions of your cover. Please read through the documents carefully and make sure the product meets your requirements"

Yes, good deal whether or not you plan to continue after a year is irrelevant. It's piece of mind for the 12 months you're covered. If you don't claim, it's only £9 if you do it could save £100's. If something goes wrong after you cancel, unlucky. I've been a plumber for 13 years and have taken this out as I know if ever there's an issue to the external drainage of your property it can be a faff!

8 Jul 17#54
HomeServe policy statement mentions "Repairs of leaks and blockages within your plumbing and drainage system on your property"
Does this mean they will cover the repair/replacement costs of broken tap ?
Roger_Irrelevant

On the diagram of what's covered it clearly shows the pipe going into the radiator, but not the radiator itself.
u664541
8 Jul 17#52
So what you're saying is that for the next 365 days you're expecting a plumbing/drainage problem, but after that period all will be fine.
It's a great deal if it were £9 per year, every year. But it's not. Unless you are going to keep the insurance going year on year you are either a fortune teller or wasting your money.
What if I were selling brickwork and window insurance? £1 per year for the 1st year then £50 afterwards? Good deal?
Xiaoda
8 Jul 171#51
Possibly because the different price point affects the cost/benefit analysis perhaps?
You're right that some things are a waste of money if not needed, but even things which are mere wants rather than needs can become worthwhile (to some people) below a certain price point.
The risks covered by this insurance policy may not have warranted £X per month, but at £9 for one year (with no obligation to renew) I would say this is a hot deal for most people.
If you set it up like I did, then you don't even need to remember to cancel; I cancelled the renewal on the day I placed the order.

You're paying for an insurance policy. If you've never had that insurance before and are only taking it out for one year you need to ask yourself why.

What you need to ask yourself is "would I pay £10pm for this". If the answer is no then why would you want to pay £9 for the 1st year then pay the regular price. If you've never had this type of cover before then you probably don't need it.

I am about to move to a house and the seller has stated the stopcock is stuck and can't be turned so the water has to be turned off at the stopcock in the footpath outside. The one that is stuck is within the property boundaries (the kitchen) so would this cover me if I take the cover and then claim after 14 days?

Spray it and clean it with loads of WD40 and carefully tap it with a hammer instead of turning it by hand. Hand turn it once it loosens up. If that doesn't work then it wont take much to replace it. Even easier if you use push fit type fittings. http://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-22stvp-stopcocks-22mm/14768

In yorkshire, its yorkshire waters responsibility to change lead pipes. they will ask you to isolate the water supply including any flushing or loo for 12 hours and then come and take 2 samples of water, send it to lab and if its positive for lead, they will change your supply from main to your house.

My partner and I are getting the keys for our first house next week. The house was built 60 years ago and it needs of a complete refurbishment. We don't have the money to do the work straightaway and we'll have to live there for a year before we can start any work.
Watching this cheap cover for plumbing and drainage we went to their website and we saw the HomeServe Cover 8 which looks quite interesting for us. If something breaks or it is already broken ;-) we can call them to get it fixed.
Could you please give me your opinion about the HomeServe Cover 8 for our situation? Is there anything important that we have to consider?
Thank you

Just be aware this is not emergency cover. I had cover with them but cancelled after they told me it would be 4-5 days before they could get to me for a leaking pipe under a floor. This was about 4 years ago so maybe they have got it down to a better timescale, but still not emergency cover.

i joined abt 2 weeks ago for £1 a month definitely worth it. covers leaking taps showers toilets. same day call out most times. had it before cancelled after 12 months and re applied.

Looking at the url doesn't look like its specific to my address so other people might be able to us it.
Might not cover everything but for £9 and no excess not a bad piece of cover for just in case.
Whenever I have used them they have always been good and cancelling after 12 months is easy enough.
