To control items when away from the home. We've also got our garden lights set up on one if these that is situated in the garage, to control the lights from mobile devices.

Not commenting on the price.
If I were to choose a set of IoT devices, Hive would be near the bottom of my list.

Yes i get what they are used for, what i'm saying is you could just use a £3 timer switch..

Or, you could accept that people will choose to spend their money how they wish.

Because you can't set a £3 timer switch to come at dusk, for example. You'll need to keep changing the times on it all year else if you just tell it to come on at 6pm, say, it'll be off when it's pitch black in winter and on when it's still daylight in summer.

For the naysayers note this allows you to switch your appliances on / off over the internet from anywhere in the world which you can't do with a regular timer!!! I have the regular timers but they are fiddly. Installed Hive with BG a few months ago and am saving loads on not running up bills when I dont need heating and water. This is just additional peace of mind when I am away / out for the evening.
Waiting for the door / window sensors to come down in price so I can order a couple of those too.

You quite obviously don't get it. Buy one, you will never go back to your timers.

Touche, having missed the point of my post completely (I wasn't talking to you) I made clear that their relative value is entirely subjective.
I have nearly a dozen different pieces of smart tech, from Ring door bells to Arlo cameras to Hive (stats, door sensors, 15x active lights), but don't have one of these.

Does a Hue Bridge act as a Smart Hub so you could use these plugs with it or would you need a separate hub?

Cheers for this - still active and managed to pickup the last one from Slough.
I have a feeling you need the specific Hive hub to operate them.
