I just bought this sauce at Tesco for a £1 and it has a code on the cap of the bottle that you enter online and they send you a voucher for a free quarter of a chicken when you spend £5 so not bad for a Nando's meal
A drink and a side of chips = £5.05. Plus a quarter chicken for £0. Add in the cost of the sauce and you get yourself a main with a side and a drink, and a bottle of sauce for £6.05. That is a pretty good deal IMO

you have to spend a minimum of 5quid. doesnt mean your full meal will equate to 5quid and not a penny more.
your 3 meals may be 10 quid each (take into account the coat of the bottomless drinks ) so thats 30 quid (with 3 qtr chickens free which is only really 1 thigh/leg) . hardly an amazing deal.

I stopped eating at Nandos when I found out that their non-Halal branches were being supplied with Halal meat (a small proportion they say, but how do you know for sure?). I don't wish to eat ritually slaughtered meat of any kind and couldn't understand that when contacting them about it that they think this this is acceptable when they already have Halal only branches. If this was happening the other way round with non-Halal meat being supplied to Halal only branches, you could imagine the uproar. But when challenged Nando's don't care quite frankly. Here's the link from their website: https://www.nandos.co.uk/halal#

You will find that Nandos uses stunned halal chicken, if you research their supplier which is Freemans of Newent.
The businesses who use a HMC supplier (halalmc.org) are the ones who use chicken which is not stunned.

13 Jul 171#23
It depends if the bird/animal is stunned first - if it is then, I'm okay with it.
If not, then it can be cruel.

13 Jul 172#24
Surely the point is that we should be allowed the choice? I don't agree with halal as a means of slaughter and as atheist, I don't like the thought of my food being "prayed over". Does it taste the same, yes, but it would to someone who believed in some fabricated fairy story "god" too so why does one need outweigh another?

I think you need to actually learn what Halal is, rather than just believing everything your read in the newspapers.
Firstly there's no praying or chanting, it's just the words that translate to "In the name of Allah". There are rules for the slaughter of animals that make it Halal which goes beyond just saying the name of Allah. Such as the animals should not be kicked or treated brutally before the slaughter. They should be given water before the slaughter and the knife must be sharp enough to cut the throat and jugular in one stroke so as not to cause more than necessary pain and suffering to the animal. The jugular is sliced so that the heart continues to beat for a short time and pumps as much blood out as possible. This means there's less blood pooling in the body and hence less bacteria in the meat.
Now I am not saying that all the Halal butchers/abattoirs follow the rules, but that's not the fault of the rules/religion. Just like not every atheist is a law abiding citizen, that's not a failing of the law.
djw1cked
13 Jul 171#32
If you look at their Halal certificate, they get supplied by Freemans. Freemans use stunned chicken, hence why it is not recognised as halal on halalmc.org
1n24n3
13 Jul 174#33
My purpose for this post is to clear any misunderstanding because people usually associate 'halal' with animal cruelty, whereas it's really not the case:
- the knife has to cut the throat with ONE swift stroke which effectively cuts off the nerve and blood supply to the brain, hence the animal doesn't feel ANY MORE pain than it would with stunning.
- the movements of the animal after the knife cut are simply muscle spasms, it doesn't mean the animal is in pain. That's the natural property of muscles when their nerve/blood supply has been cut off.
- ALL the blood is therefore allow to drain (flows out) since blood is a source of many bacteria and microorganisms which are unhealthy, thus reducing chance of you getting disease.
The 'ritual' being mentioned is just saying that we are grateful for this food (blessing) that God you have blessed us with (since there are people out there who are not as lucky as us in terms of having food on their plates)
.....
Last but not least, a lot of people eat fish right? How are they caught? As far as I'm aware they're just left to basically run out of breath. Now imagine suffocation, isn't that a 'cruel' way to kill an 'animal'? if so, I hope you will you agree to stop having fish & chips too.
My point is one should do their own un-biased research and not just hop on the same bandwagon as what you've heard or told by others in their thoughts/ideas/logic.
Enjoy your free 1/4 chicken

HMC - Halal Monitoring Committee
certified not stun halal, as it has been for thousands of years
Tesco, and Asda sell HMC approved meat which i buy.
Nandos sell stun - therefore not halal
Stun halal is where an animal is paralysed before prayer and sacrifice.
Muslims and Jewish folk have always made a prayer then sacrificed
The UK Govt should act to approve HMC as the sole certifier of halal meat, currently there are many different claims of halal causing confusion and division.

Seems like a lot of effort (and money) for a 1/4 of a chicken. And since when was 1/4 of a chicken even a thing? Which 1/4 is it? And it's always dry and bland. They try to use spiciness as a substitute for actual taste. The only good thing about Nando's is the mash.
Also, it's nice to see that not everyone has been taken in by racist anti-halal stupidity.

Probably puts people off their food to think that it has been slaughtered religiously rather than just being left to slip around in a tin shed in its own pee and excrement before being (hopefully) humanely killed in a traditional atheist manner.

Fantastic posting Carrieford, this deal will no doubt save £'s as well as pile on the pounds!
Pity how some people think a DEALS site should be used to make an irrelevant personal observation, nothing to do with the original posting or saving money. My (ever-emptying) wallet is the reason I came to this site.
Right, 5x sauces for home (Youtube - How to make a homemade Nando's, for another day) 5x vouchers, off to find the nearest Kosher Nando's to feed me little ones on the cheap!
Ohh-err, I meant Halal for Kosher - but funny how that word doesn't stir the same emotions despite going thro' near identical procedures.
