Smart wi-fi plug, switches on lamps/plugged in devices remotely with app (timers etc), Android and IOS. 2.4Ghz wifi only. Also this records power consumption/cost of the plugged in device and graphs to the app which make it roughly equilivent to more expensive units (thinking tp-links which is >35GBP). Control from outside the home (4g-->internet) appears to work without any fuss. Hardware appears good, not the smallest unit in the world, might not be able to fit two side by side in a dual gang socket. Seems like end of the line for this product so they are selling it off. 600 or so available across the chain apparently. With the benefit of only owning one for 24 hours; seems like a bargin to me. Pickup from the store or order- delivery to home or store, there's 40GBP minimum order for free delivery to home.

Does it work with Amazon Alexa?

I don't think it does, nor google from what I can see, IFTTT, don't know. It doesnt mention it on the box. I guess that maybe a killer for some. Like I said using their app does work externally from the house, app works with android 7 fine.
Geeks only: Being a bit of a smart home geek it does seem to be compatible with the broadlink sp3 for controlling power on/off/status, I have it working with FHEM software without difficulty.

Amazon have it listed and someone has posted a question asking about alexa, and the manufacturer has replied stating not at the moment

If only it supported Alexa I'd be all over this

Only problem being it would then probably cost more!

That sounds interesting. Is it easy to set up FHEM with it? Can the FHEM server act as a bridge between the Ego and an Alexa?

Worry with these is what happens if the manufacturer goes bust and turns off their servers....

The monitoring part of the app may stop, but the controlling of stuff plugged in should still work

Are you sure it doesn't rely on a cloud connection?

Fhem as an alexa bridge cheeky ossible but that's sledgehammer to crack a nut unless u already have a reason to use fhem, which is great btw but a steep learning curve. Setting these up with them by themselves is easy, something like: define plug1 broadlink macaddtess ipaddress sp3, I forget exactly, am at the beach
I suspect the mfg is not involved with the cloudy logging of data or remote control from outside the house, I don't know for sure. Also regarding the mfg disowning the product, as an experiment I told my network DHCP server to not give my plug a network gateway to the internet, this is a quick hack, not really a firewall but sort of. Remote control from the internet now doesn't work as expected but the app and fhem control continues to work at home and I think the graphing too. This kinda implies the mfg can fold but the product continue working, I'd be very unhappy if this wasn't the case. I suspect the shops all have a few on shelves
