Light and durable. Strong suction at the cleaner head. DC40 has a self-adjusting cleaner head that seals in suction on carpets and hard floors. There’s no need to turn awkward dials or press buttons. Dyson cyclones are more efficient than others – more dust and dirt is flung out of the airflow and into the bin.

Thanks OP. These are well rated on the energy label too - mostly As with one B.
They also have the DC41 Mk2 for an additional £6 - went for that one.
Its got a larger waste storage, bit more powerful but heavier, longer cord etc. Also some improved components.

"DC40 has a self-adjusting cleaner head that seals in suction on carpets and hard floors. There’s no need to turn awkward dials or press buttons".
Well TBH the User Guide indicates not to use the brush head on a hard floor. Since ours always starts the brush head when the vacuum is first turned on, you do have to press the button to stop the brush when going to hard floor. Plus when on a hard floor you can alter the power of the suction - by bending down near ground level and moving a sliding switch to your desired position. So the quote is not quite true.
