I wouldn't go as far as to say it's dead' you are obviously using the wrong add ons if you think that.
It's worth the effort to keep up and research' if you can't be bothered to do that then yea I suppose it's dead as far as your concerned.

Hasn't the new version been upgraded to a quad processor hence the recent price increase to £39.99?(normal price now) £31.99 is a good price. I'm a bit annoyed as I had one delivered today for £32.99 but still a good deal I guess.

Yes the new one has a quad core processor.
Compared to the Gen 1 it is a massive improvement, IMO the original Fire Stick was so slow and painful going through menus.
The Gen 2 is smooth and no noticeable slow down, don't know how good the voice remote is though, after owning one since prime day I have not used the voice part once.
