Seems a decent enough price for a 7.2 Dolby atmos av receiver

Not set anything up yet as house is getting refurbed. What is bi wire? I bought some mission m cube 5.1 speakers from ebay and a pair of Monitor Audio for the atmos.

Bit of advice please guys. Is there a receiver that can switch off all speakers but 2 ceiling speakers that otherwise get used for Atmos? Was looking at Marantz SR7011 but was told it can't do that.

I don't think you can usually disable the fronts.

only way i could think to do that is if you ran extra wires to your ceiling speakers and wire them to B speaker inputs, this all depends on your current set-up ie are your front speakers bi-wire?

Does this make everything sound amazing or does it depend on source?

My dad's 78s really come alive when played through this.
It's as if Acker Bilk is on the sofa blowing his horn and Billie Holiday is in the larder having a fag whilst Benny Goodman is on the ceiling touching up the artexing.

Finally richer sound start putting premium brands on sale, hot! You're right who wants 50 pound off cheap Chinese rubbish like onkyo. Hoping they will start a sale on Sony soon to, fingers crossed.

The '681' is the better option in this price bracket. 6 HDMI inputs (3 are HDCP 2.2), plus 4K upscaling. Has a phono stage too.

Can I ask why 4k upscaling is important on an av receiver, as pretty much all 4k tvs now do 4k upscaling?

Forgive my stupid question, but what does it actually do?
Is it like a 'hub'/passthrough for other devices? Is having this like having a 'smart' sub or something?
