The only iOS similarity is that there is no app drawer. Basically in iOS all your apps/folders are on your 'home' screens where as in Android you'd usually choose apps to appear on your home screens but also have a button to see 'all apps'. Difficult to explain but it's not anything to worry about.

Plus android allows you to customise the look and feel a lot. Using a launcher like nova you can add an app drawer back I should think.

MIUI is based on Android but it has a feel of iOS (Source: tried MIUI on my Redmi Note 3 Pro)

I have the mi5s from gearbest.com and has to go through the process of requesting permission from xiaomi to install the official rom (which was simple enough and took a couple of days). Rom when received was not official and Amazon prime adverts (etc) popped up every now n again (Full screen) with the provided rom. So I advise to check the version when you get it before using.

fyi... if a phone comes with an unofficial rom like yours did you didn't have to request any unlock as it was already unlocked to get the rom in. All you have to do than is download official rom from official miui website, copy it to relevant folder as described on official website and load it using update app on the phone. loading any official rom will lock up the boot loader. hope this will be useful to someone.

I beg to differ. Xiaomi has been quite bad fixing bugs at least for the Redmi 3S.
For example, there's a well known issue that the microphone doesn't work properly during calls. It is very difficult to understand the caller on Xiaomi phones possibly due to buggy noise cancellation. It's incredibly: Xiaomi seems not to test the phone function(!) properly. It's very disappointing.
Flashing ROMs and updating my phone has also been a nightmare, not only because of the zillion of incompatible variants Xiaomi released, but also because their PC software is useless/buggy.

Says the man with an Letv phone! He's correct about the Xiaomi warranty as warranty is provided by the retailer which often proves to be so expensive as to be worthless (it's a risk I'm prepared to accept considering the ridiculous cost of the alternatives).
Band 20 important to some though mostly fine outside of London unless you are on O2.

Been using this for about two months now after previously having a Nexus 5. The amount of phone you get for this money is immense, and would be at least double the price to get a similar experience from one of the big names.
I do miss the stock Android features a little bit, but changing a few default apps to the Google equivalent and installing the Google Now launcher on there and it's basically all good to go.
Also, 64GB of internal storage!

Bought one of these three last time they were on here, very nice phone. I will second that you need to buy a case, will fall off any surface if it is not level.
Screen is only 1080p compared to some of the other flagships but in reality it looks just as nice.

Been using this for almost 6 months now. Really fast, great screen, good battery life, well built, camera a big upgrade over xiaomi Redmi note 2 I used before. No band 20 so if you use mobile Internet a lot bear in mind that in a lot of cases you would get 3G speeds instead of 4G.

Recently bought the mi5s from gearbest. Took 8 working days using free delivery method. Bought quite a bit from them and nothings ever taken more than a couple weeks worst case.

This phone is amazing I have had mine almost a year having £320 fur mine. All my Xiaomi (and I have a lot) is excellent quality and I have always been pleased with the service from Gearbest. Choose the normal free delivery and the is only a slim chance you will get hit for import duty. Choose DHL and you will.

I think they have improved on their buggy problem I have had no issues . I got mine when it first came out so I did need to flash the official Rom , but that was so easy Xiaomi site provides the flashing tool and the correct Rom . This one I believe as the official global Rom that allows OTA on it so that will no longer be a problem

The lack of warranty when spending whta is a fairly large sum of money is pretty much a deal breaker for me. This is what puts me off any expensive / electronics purchases from china.

I'm really tempted about this deal but I'm a bit exceptic about the quality of the camera. I have a Lenovo zuk z2 and the camera is crap! tried all the camera apps and it's just not good enough to for me -coming from a Xperia z2-. I appreciate someone else opinion about this phone's cameras. thanks!

Quick question, if you get hit with import fee, do you have to pay it? Say you refuse, it goes back to the sender? In normal cases, I hear the sender will deduct the cost of posting and refund the rest?

I've updated the OP to reflect people's comments about the voucher. I must be honest I did not try the voucher on this phone but on a different purchase a few days ago. I incorrectly assumed it would work, I guess being a flash sale price there were small print T&C's. Apologies for misleading, I was trying to help not hinder.

Well it looks like Three, EE, O2, Virgin, BT Mobile & Vodafone will all work with this phone for 4G.
Thats quite a choice of carriers. The only popular carriers I can see that won't support 4G with this phone is GiffGaff and ID.

EE, Three and Vodafone also use band 20 for 4g. They use other frequencies too so it's true you should get 4g in good reception areas but it will affect reception in poorer reception areas.

Nearly went for it, no problems ever with GearBest (or Bang Good), and find Xiaomi kit top quality, and although the mobile is dual nano SIM, you cant use one for microSD additional storage. I'm out.

Good screen, great camera, really fast, good battery life and loads of storage.
I bought mine from Banggood - phone, a Miband2 and a case all for less than £200. Try pricing up an S7, fitbit and case!
I'm on EE so the lack of band 20 isn't an issue - the 4g reception is better than my old Samsung everywhere.
Delivery took 2 weeks, no customs problems.
Miui8 is brilliant - all the tools you need and none that you don't. Far better than the awful Samsung Touchwiz with all its bloatware.
Get one - you won't regret it.

The Mi 5 uses a Snapdragon chip so, in theory, band 20 should work if you can hack the software to unlock non Chinese bands. I'm sure the XDA guys will work this out soon.
