Its surprising how disappointing it is to read into the deal and find its *just* train fares and not train fares with free hot cakes included. :disappointed:

I also got email, some great prices for this weekend but I'm looking to travel next weekend, anyone know if this is a weekly thing? It seems so from a search on here but I don't appear to get an email every week

3 weeks in a row is pretty good. In the past, it's been once or twice every few months.
They never send me any emails for some reason so I rely on here to find out.
Really want to make plans for say 2 weeks time but there's no guarantee the deal will be running then and things like air fares for a weekend away are more expensive or sold out 2-3 days out.

Yes, this deal does appear a bit random - some weeks it appears, some weeks it doesn't so it's not really aimed at people who like to plan far in advance.
But if you can be spontaneous it's a great deal to get from Yorkshire down to London for a fiver each way compared to the walk up fare.

considering virgin are buying up large amounts of your nhs down in England you should start thinking about spending your money elsewhere and avoid giving sir Richard any more money seeing as he's helping dismantle your nhs

I agree that what Virgin Care is doing to the NHS isn't welcome (suing the NHS is just fundamentally wrong).
Can me a sucker for a good deal here though. This is the same price I pay to go from Wakefield to Leeds return twice (often via Virgin Trains as those are the express ones that pass through the station).
Sorry if I sound like a hypocrite but I don't support or easily accept the actions of Branson for capitalising on a nationally-funded service.

Can't find any destinations with the offer. Anyone got any good finds?

I wanted to go to Aberdeen on Saturday but zero promos fares as nothing stops at Doncaster. Unless I split things into Doncaster-Newcastle, Newcastle-Aberdeen for example but that doubles the price nearly for some fares.
Usual £40 first from Aberdeen to Doncaster; £10 up to Newcastle or Edinburgh,; £5 Leeds / Doncaster to London or £20 first etc.
Added: I can actually book some tickets to fly somewhere next weekend and if no cheap train fares appear, cancel them without charge.

From last week, myself and someone else mentioned they couldn't use vouchers redeemed from Nectar points against these promo fares.
The one way around this is to add a normal fare of £5-£6+ (need to check the exact amount) ad then you can use vouchers. Fine if you've loads of vouchers but not if you've only say £10 as you'll only get £3-£4 value unless you actually will use the VTEC ticket.
Also works with Transpennine Express tickets etc (previously paid £35 or so from Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes and added a random £6.50 VTEC ticket and offset the entire cost with vouchers).

It makes sense for Virgin to do this. People wanting to travel last minute are likely to fly so it's good for Virgin to offer cheap fares for seats they likely won't sell.

Booked outbound standard and return 1st class as standard sold out. £55 return between London and Edinburgh for a weekend travel still a bargain! voted hot.
