Yes - I use mine to make pakora and southern fried wings if I am making a large amount.

Surprisingly there's still loads of people who use old fashioned chip pans. I regularly read about chip pan fires. I can't understand why when you can pick one of these up for £10, much safer. Don't use either myself, but if I did there's no way I'd allow an old fashioned chip pan in the house.

Large amounts of food in these fryers makes the Temp drop rapidly & so can spoil foods.
Best done in small batches.

I've just ordered one for this reason. I gave my old one to my parents. this is a cracking deal. I make home made battered fish and its better than my local chip shop. I use the Tesco batter packet mix following the instructions added baking powder and its so crispy and fresh. still plenty of stock. heat

I really wish my wife would allow me to buy one of these again. I used to LOVE real chips in one just like this.

Sadly, the smell, plus the fact she'd inevitably want real chips far too regularly again & put weight on means it's the one thing she won't give in on. She even let me have a new projector & huge new screen having originally shanghai'd it, but will not budge on this.

First world problems!

Great price though, have some heat!

Had one of these for a while but changed to a slightly more expensive model a month ago and it's so much better. I use it for chips, doughnuts, fried chicken, samosa, etc.

Good for the price.

9 Jun 17 2 #21
I have a very similar one from Argos. Does the job. Cleaning is fine, you just lift out the element and rinse it under the tap and wipe over, then wash the pan in very hot water, then wipe over the unit with a soapy cloth. I tend to use it on the hob surface under an extractor fan, otherwise it would stink out the kitchen. Excellent for doing things like fishfingers, nuggets, crispy fries etc. I use Crisp n Dry (rapeseed oil) so it's a little healthier and tastes nice, it losts longer too because the smoke point is higher.
soldierboy001 to Gareth79
11 Jun 17 #68
I have a very similar one myself, it is the same but with different dial and a different name on it. It is a very good fryer for the price and I got this for my other home as I could not justify the cost of an airfryer that I have been using for years, first the paddle version then the basket in an enclosed body type that you need to shake about, which I thought made good chips. Well reverting back to one of these has proved a disaster, as now I want chips all the time. I had completely forgotten what homemade chips were like.
The only thing I can say against is that unlike the video description the body is not sturdy, it is just folded tin plate, so don't chuck it about if you have to hide it from the wife.

Some of the questions made me roll around..

"can u make chips with fresh potatoes in the fryer or is it frozen chipsonly"

Hi, thank you for your question.
I have looked into your query and I can advise that you are able to cook potato using the Argos Value Range Pro Deep Fat Fryer
christopherguy25

Cooking oil, cigarette smoke and a few days without a shower = poverty smell. Having one of these things in your house would make your clothes stink. I can always tell when someone passes by me in a shop or on the street and you get the overwhelming smell of cooking fat grease. They've also consumed half of the oil through their hair. Ghastly.
rqmusicfan to christopherguy25
10 Jun 17 1 #52
It's a good job your smug sense of superiority is odourless.

You do realise certain recipes require things to be deep fried in oil, and that people can own a fryer and it wouldn't have to be in use every day.
christopherguy25

rqmusicfan
10 Jun 17 1 #54
I'm not really sure what the point of your comment was in the first place. It doesn't really seem that well thought out, just mostly about you equating the thought of owning a fryer with poor unwashed people in your head.
bigdave2
10 Jun 17 2 #55
I live in poverty, the highlight of my week is proper chips and I use the spent oil to run my car so I can work. Not everyone lives in your bubble pal, get over yourself! Don't sniff me though...

And yet you're as wrong as you are arrogant.
I certainly grew up in poverty, low class as they get. And I don't just mean I was a kid from a working family who only got Nike and not Burberry trainers. And we did have a fryer that was used a lot, but that was 1980s.

These days: I have a deep fat fryer. I use it maybe once a month IF that. It sits under the extractor fan if I use it. But fairly sure me owning one has **** all todo with poverty. I'm no longer living in very bad poverty, not rich but just upper tax band as a single guy so fairly well off.

FYI my sister certainly lives in poverty (of her own idiocy though, on benefits and drugs, scratch cards, cigs...brighthouse, a literal stereotype?) But they oven cook food as it's simpler, lazier and cheaper than messing around with oil.

Basically don't be an arrogant dick. I've a fryer, used occasionally, not living in poverty.

+Heat safer than using a stove and simpler. Nice way to cook a cheap treat.

reserved one at castle vale..i bought one last time and i treid to clean it, after that it stopped working lol, probaly water got into the works...better to chuck the old one away and get a new one for £10...i only use it now and then mainly for fries...does the job to be honest..best thing is to make sure you wipe the frier after use as the oil is easier to get off..once its gone cold..theyre a **** to clean.lol

We were the same but after years of dry oven chips etc i bought one of these couple of months ago onbline much to wifes dismay
however the chips that come out of these are 10 times better than oven chips
well worth the money
yes there is an oil smell while using just like any other fryer or wok but it soon goes and to be honest hardly worth worrying about.

well worth a tenner

I have had a Tefal fryer for years identical to this one. It has been great!

To keep them like new, the secret is clean with degreaser.
You spray it and wipe off built up grease with ease.

Yes it stinks but as someone who was on benefits for years (due to disability) and growing up in actual poverty i.e damp property, hand me down clothes, struggling to put food on table we never owned one till about 10 years ago and even then father only uses it to make things like HOME MADE bhajis, fish and chips (he even makes batter himself), we never had fried breakfasts like many of our working class friends, and our working and middle class friends were the ones with fryers since of course they were the only ones who could afford them!

And properties more smelt of cigarettes than fat!

I have own a fryer 5 years and used it a few times at most to make chips when had friends round.
I have an extractor fan so just use that in my property

Really made me laugh to read this as the same applies in my house. One generation back any our dads wouldn't have even consulted their wives, and the wives would have had to make the chips and then clean the thing. I. blame the Spice Girls.
