Hopefully this might be useful to someone. Basically if you have booked with BA directly in last 24 hours, You can have your price matched and £50 taken off by Virgin.
"Today we've launched our sizzling, money saving deal. If you're a recent British Airways booker, we're giving you the chance to swap your booking to Virgin Atlantic instead, and get a £50 discount on your new flight. We're nice like that!
Tell me more, tell me more...
If you've booked a long haul flight directly with British Airways (ie on http://www.ba.com or via their direct contact centre) within the last 24 hours, you're still in their 'cooling off period' which means you can cancel your flight at no extra cost.
We will match the route and dates of your original booking, and give you £50 off our quoted fare. To find out how to take advantage of this offer, and choose #VAnotBA"
Misleading description as there is no price matching - it's £50 off Virgin's price, not BA's: 'We will match the route and dates of your original booking, and give you £50 off our quoted fare.' - luvsadealdealdeal

I flew Virgin last month Gatwick to Orlando, no complaints at all. Flights were on time, two decent meals each way, good service, wide choice of films, etc, and seat was comfy with good legroom (I'm 6' 4").
Only downside was the 2 hrs+ it took to go through customs/immigration at Orlando but I can't blame Virgin for that.

The link doesn't take you anywhere.
What if you are about to book and you have the quote? Will this still apply.
Have to agree. Used them to come back from SF last year. The aircraft was so old I was amazed it got off the ground. The seats were even older, tatty and very uncomfortable (for a transatlantic flight), most of the seat back monitors didn't work and the food was the worst I've ever had on any airline.
Would never fly with them again at any price.

Used them to fly to NYC last year. Old plane, indifferent service, food was just okay, old entertainment systems. Luckily return flight was operated by much better Delta.

I have just called them. You take the Virgin Price - GBP50. Not BA price - GBP50. The lady on the phone explicitly said this is not a price match (defo not clear on their site).

If you want to save a lot more, just book the same Virgin flight through Delta's website. Last year I booked 4 Premium Economy seats to LA that way and saved £350 PER person and that was at a time when Virgin supposedly had a mega sale on!

Haven't used Virgin to NYC but recently used BA premium economy and had a terrible experience.
On the way there it was an old 747-400. The screen was so pixelated that it was impossible to watch anything during the flight (regardless of being pixelated, the screen was really tiny). When it came to food, we were given a menu with 2 main courses to choose from - when the service time came the steward told me they only have one option available (ridiculous, can't they have enough available from each?!) . To make it even worse experience they didn't have a starter with this meal.
On the way back the aircraft was newer and screen as it should be, but again here bad experience when I got the personal headphones they were literally broken inside the pack - don't know how BA think this is acceptable for someone who paid extra for 'premium', and if that's their premium, I don't want to know what happens in economy....
My parents also had terrible experience with BA to Marrakech - it's less than 4 hours so no complimentary food. My parents wanted to buy food but as stewards reached their row , they announced that there is no more food available for purchase - outrageous considering they don't provide you complimentary food and don't let you buy (how come they can't have sufficient food for purchase?) . Also for them on the way back it was a plane with only 1 toilet for 120 people in economy class, you can imagine that each person had to queue around 45 minutes to be able to get in.
When you call to complain, the most they will give you is 10,000 AVIOS.

I flew from LHR-SEA (seattle) in April on BA and was pretty taken aback by how old the plane was. It smelled funny, and was not up to the standard I expected from BA. I didn't know you can call to complain and get avios points!
How did you get these? Can you please explain briefly, as I'd happily have an extra 10,000 points

Agree with the comments. Definitely check the route first before flying. They were good a few years ago but there's better out there for the cost these days. Some routes, unfortunately this may be the best option though... but always best to check... you don't always pay for what you get

If you booked direct with BA for a long-haul you probably over-paid £50 in the first place.
Never book direct.

Always book direct and get them to price match any travel operator (ie. use SkyScanner to find it) and they refund the difference. I do it every time i book with them.
Just give Virgin a dummy BA booking reference .. how would they check?

Sure mate, the best thing is to write down a complaint and then email it to their CEO Alex Cruz: [email protected]
Within a couple of days someone from their customer relations will get back to you , apologise but offer nothing. So 2nd step is to call their customer service , express your disappointment and demand compensation. As they can only give you financial compensation (money) only for delayed flights, they will offer you Avios as compensation, the maximum they can give is 10,000. Hint them that you are considering whether to use BA again, and they will give you tihs compensaiton.

£50 off over-priced Virgin flights? Some are even code shared and cost more than the real airline flying you.
E.g. some Virgin flights to India are handled by Jet and cost more than the Jet flight. What is the point?

Sometimes BA Premium economy is cheaper than economy and you see this on BA.com . Weird. I booked premium economy below economy prices when agent and BA prices were higher for economy. Always check and book the cheapest.

No body has mentioned that on some destinations and durations adding car hire lowers the overall price and sometime gives you free or drastically reduced car hire. This has worked for years since Avis tied up with BA.
Adding hotels doesn't usually gain much of a saving than going direct to the hotel or using a travel site.
Worth a try. And I don't think the car hire is linked. So you can always drop it.

Wasn't aware they did this.
I wonder how much they'd push back on the offline bookings, they have a question of 'what is an offline booking' but don't make any other mention of it, these OTAs that have phone-only bookings are usually the ones that come up cheapest, and often sell the ticket below-cost by passing part of the kickback from the supplier into the ticket price.

I followed the steps today, and finally got them to do it. They couldn't see the £674 I saw online for my flights, but after sending screen shots they agreed to refund £50 once I placed the order. They said I should get it in 3-5 days, and will update if (when?) I get it

I found that out in April too!
My flight to Seattle was £900 before I added car rental, then dropped to £690 with a 4 day car rental (which a an all in price so I got the car rental free too)
BA guy at the airport said that BA holidays is often even cheaper if you book a hotel and car.
The car rental is just a voucher that you give to avis at the airport, so you're under no obligation to use it - they really don't care

Definite advantages for direct bookings if things go pear shaped. A couple of years ago they were planning to strike on a day I was due to fly to Orlando, I called them up and asked if it would affect me and they changed my flight and hotel to a day earlier at no extra cost. Also, the last bad snow we had they called me the day before and said don't even travel, we will re-book you for 2 days time if that suits. I am aware that other travellers turned up to the airport and hung about for hours, while I was at work not losing a days annual leave. I know they have faced a lot of criticism, but I have always had excellent service from them. Used to fly wth virgin but their service really plummeted, it used to be top notch. Shame really.

Why would anyone fly with BA anyway, by far the worse Airline I have ever flown with, both short haul and long haul. Flown with BA many time now (not by choice) and never had a good experience. I have flown Virgin 4 times now for long haul and they are so much better than BA will ever be. When price checking flights with both airlines there is nothing in the prices at all, so whether or not the £50 is off the BA's price is irrelevant.

I always book mine through Kenwood Travel, they're normally cheaper than direct and I don't have to pay upfront, just a deposit to hold the flights. They're London based and I always speak to the same reservations guy, he tells me which days are the cheapest, last time he told me to come back a day later and it was cheaper in Premium than in Economy.
