Thought this was a great price for a very capable handset. The camera is the defining feature of these handsets, with a staggering 23MP sensor. Both colours are available as unlocked, however there are Three / Vodafone locked handsets available also, if that's your thing.

23MP is not at all relevant to the quality - Sony phones (and others) have proved it's not about the pixel count. Sony phone cameras have consistently under-performed.

If you want to live without worrying about battery life then get the P2

"The overall galling factor of this phone is the screen though - whether it's just a case of being able to type quickly or entering text somewhere else, the screen response is just too slow and if you're a texting fiend, having a Whatsapp conversation becomes a nightmare.
"It seems like a trivial matter, but it blighted so many things within this phone that it's a really big factor in the score."

Totally agree. Phone is not a patch on my previous z3c.

was it rubbish from new or has it degraded faster than you expected?

Excellent phone, just upgraded from a z3 compact and its much better
Great screen, good battery life, very quick and running nougat 7.0
Better benchmarks than a xperia Z5, Lenovo P2, Galaxy A5 2017 and similar to LG G5 SE to name but a few

If you came from a z3c get the X Compact.
Bright screen, better battery life, USB c and epic camera with laser focus. I tried this model as well but not as well specced as the compact version

If you came from a Z3c, the consensus is to get a Z5c. The X Compact had too many odd compromises and was pretty mid-range whereas the Z5c was always top-end, is still decent to this day and has waterproofing.

That does seem to be an option and I had a Z5C but just didnt like the style.
For me the reasons for moving to X Compact over the Z5C were:
Brighter screen
USB C
Much better camera owing to the laser focus - genuinely much better and the reason I moved from the Z3C which I still love
More RAM - Whilst the processor is lesser, this is more than made up by the extra ram imo
It also is waterproof - Sony list the device as waterproof in Japan but not europe - check the youtube videos for it's dunk in water
The only thing that I would improve is the shape/size of it, its taller and very slightly thicker that the z3/5C.
