I would like to see some of these with a small push on/off button above the USB's to power it. It's otherwise a transformer nibbling at power constantly. It's not much, it's not enough to bother me (I have a few) but it would be a nice extra feature to see on these.

Theres a push button internally which only powers the USB socket when a device is plugged in..

Do they do USB-C versions of these yet? Investing in type A seems like a bad thing for the future.

USB socket outlets mostly have a deeper back and therefore need a deeper back box.
Odds are that all your house back boxes will be 25mm deep unless your lucky and most usb sockets outlets require a 35mm back box so don't go and buy a load of these before checking.
Some brands do get in at a squeeze but not often and it's not best practice/safe to cram the cables in tight.
Best get a sparky to check it out for you too.

Wonder what depth the twin pack from Argos ones are, as I've recently paid £8 a go from Toolstation for the 25mm ones.
You know after raving about similar sockets and a higher 3.1A for two ports, i finally gave up and bought a 6 into 1 charger. Reason even charging one device these are slow, doing 2 is a mission, using the sockets at the sametime just gets worse.
For anyone interested i swapped to a AUKEY unit, hear the ANKER one is also good, i can charge my mobile tablet, ipod and smartwatch all at once in record time with the safety protection and adaptive charging.

It sounds like those querying me do not own a USB C phone or do not understand the differences between specifications. A to C is only there for backwards compatibility. You lose the much greater speeds and voltages when using A to C.

Doubt you'll see USB 'C' for a while, certainly not for the range of voltages. There'd be no room for the electronics to support it behind the socket.

I'm in a council house and have these in all rooms and have had electrical inspections and a complete rewire and have not had any issues. Some are from screwfix and some from a non uk site a few years ago. The only problem I've had is that my kitchen tiles made fitting harder because they covered the inside too much

I hope USB-C is going to be more sturdy than micro-usb, as every phone/tablet port has gone loose within a few uses

personally, I don't think it is good idea to have USB port with socket. The reason being, USB and related technologies develop very fast but not the power socket is at that pace. For eg. now USB3c standards can contain power 10x more than 2.1A. I can bet in 2 years, new tech will come and these will be obsolete. Moreover the transformer constantly drains power from mains.

That's the theory but in reality, I'm not so sure. There have been numerous issues with USB-C, mostly with companies not building things to spec and there's a lot of confusion over what should or shouldn't happen when things are plugged in and which way power or data should flow as it's left up to the devices to negotiate and this can lead to problems. This was quite a big deal and was why the new Surface Pro didn't have USB-C and when you think of it that way, it does make sense: https://www.windowscentral.com/why-no-usb-type-c-new-surface-pro

the next generation is replacing the standard usb socket, so it will be USB C in both ends. makes sense given everything is getting slimmer.

Be careful with these as i remember reading a while back that they aren't as stringently tested as normal plug sockets (not this brand - but the USB combo type plugs generally) and are more of a fire risk.
Ive got a few around the house as they are so useful, but always a little weary of them.

I agree. Do the switches not control the corresponding USB ports by chance? It's not the small parasitic current I'm worried about, it's the transformer just constantly trickling along til it inevitably breaks and it's not like you can just unplug and replace it like a normal plug charger, is it...
We don't have any single sockets in our house, so I went for the dual pack of double sockets from Argos. Either of these are a great deal in their own right. Well spotted OP.
