Anyone with expert knowledge could give an opinion on this vs a Calibre two two please?

Obviously a substantial difference in price but a quick look at the specs and the two two is the better bike by a mile. 9 speed vs 7 speed and higher quality gearing. Fork on the two two is better and hydraulic discs will make a world of difference.

If you can afford the more expensive Calibre 2 get that, much better bike. This is merely ok. If it had been £199 I'd say a great price but at £250 I'm more lukewarm about it. It's basically entry level components. The derailleurs are found on sub £100 bikes and typically supplied with freewheel based bikes which aren't really suitable for off road but with this bike they have actually replaced the freewheel with a sunrace budget 7 speed cassette. It's just about the absolute minimum spec for realistically going off road and going over rough ground. This is clearly a better mountain bike that any that come with a freewheel though but that's it really this is pretty much typical of such a bike except they have replaced the freewheel with a freehub based rear wheel and cassette.

Prob go with the bossnut, tbh though for a grand I'd rather have/build a good hard tail over a full Susser.

Junk quality frames and best avoided if you are a medium to heavy rider. Decathlon don't seem to pay for the reinforcing of their frames like you see on competitor's bikes or maybe they are designed for the shorter lighter french physique or simply they are so obsessed with lightness they sacrifice strength. You have to factor in you are getting a weaker frame with a shorter life. 4 years production of their e-bikes recalled too due to breaking frames and the rockrider recall has now been extended to more models. Good if you have a rockrider as part of the recall because you can get a full refund however much you have used it I suppose. I can't imagine anything much worse than going downhill fast over rough terrain and the frame breaking apart as you do so, potentially life threatening. I'd certainly expect this Marin frame to be stronger than the equivalent Rockrider frame even if the rest of the components are inferior.
where is this? on the same vendor's website as this deal?

Bottom end components on it. And a V-brake.
Really not worth the price...and the RRP is shameful.

Spend a bit more and get something better is my advice. Not silly money. My Kona cost £700 10 years ago and is still going strong.
Tredz do 1-4 years interest free on a lot of these bikes over £250 as well, so well worth it if buying.

Only cable operated disc brakes but at least u could upgrade in the future to hydraulics as the mounts are there, unlike the bike in the original post with no mounts just V brakes.
