well after my 2nd unlock email came through (just under 24 hours) I phoned up earlier, spoke to a guy in a UK call centre paid off the device plan was asked what else I want to do I wanted to go to PAYG (thinking of 02 priority or 02 Tickets) the guy on the phone was sound, not a problem
basiclly said he will send out a new PATG sim and it should transfer over next week (sure he said Tuesday) he said my final bill should be about £6 for just under a weeks airtime
asked about getting silly bills for early termination fees etc, said I shouldn't as once the account closes I will get a final bill (of about £6)
overall quite happy
Taking my phone to the apple shop at the weekend, where hopefully they will change it for a new one

i never recieved my final bill however if you log into my o2 on laptop or desktop and go to your account on left click payment history and there should be pending payment amount in my case it was £25.16 cr (credit) you then need to go to o2.co.uk/app…=34 and claim that money back

Just had the first month's payment of £26 taken out had the misfortune to speak to an 02 customer advisor from South Africa (according to her email)
the dozy [email protected] told me to cancel my direct debit to avoid any more payments I told her in no uncertain terms she is wrong to advise this as you (02) may still try and take money and will eventully place a late payment on my credit file (which they have)
unbelivable a classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing
Update 02 said I will get the money back on the 19.Aug.2017, god knows how when she told me to cancel the dd
Halifax bank transfer the money back within 24 hours
now I wonder which option do I take

That is correct. You can check your account online to confirm whether your number is still on pay monthly or payg.

So I got some militant sales assistant on the phone who was insisting on the 30 days notice.
I took the switch to PAYG option. The SIM has arrived and the transfer to PAYG is booked for Monday where the PayMonthly Sim should be disconnected.
Just wondering does that mean the airtime is definitely stopped once "disconnected" as Monday is the last day of my "14 days".

Even if you do get hit with an early termination fee, usually a quick Live chat sorts it out, just keep a record of the live chat by emailing it back to you then a few days later just call up to confirm with 02 on the phone
hatchers
26 Jul 17#45
Thanks - are there any kind of consequences to transferring out with a PAC code to another network - I don't want to get hit with an early termination fee?
Also if you had an O2 PAYG sim at home already - do you think that would work to do things more quickly or is it more likely they'd cock it up if they don't send you the SIM themselves?
Anon
26 Jul 17#44
As I said above, from my experience of it taking a week with the O2 PAYG transfer, you would be better getting an Asda PAYG (or other sim) and request the PAC from O2 tomorrow, give it to the other network tomorrow before 4pm and it should transfer by Friday.

Can anyone advise me about the airtime. I am on the 8th day of my contract. I will ring tomorrow which will be the 9th day.
If I can't cancel the airtime or they start saying there is a 30 day notice requirement, is there enough time left for me to go PAYG and them to send a PAYG SIM out or have I left it too late bearing in mind that it will be the weekend?
Anon
26 Jul 17#42
I don't think there is anything to worry about (unless they have messed up
). It takes a few days after receipt of the SIM - they send the PAYG
SIM out and then a few days later the number transfers and it closes the
account (online it then appears as Disconnected). When I called last
week to close down the account they tried the 30 days notice line, so I
quickly changed to PAYG as that seemed like the quickest option - they
said the account would close on Thursday (so a week later!). In
hindsight I would have bought an Asda sim for 50p and then requested a
PAC and given it to Asda so that it could close down in 1/2 days max.

its rare that it does happen, but if it does there's no way of knowing unless you check your credit file history often or unless you get knocked back for credit in the future, only to find out it was down to 02 and a late/missed payment

Just to note that unless you are paying for the Equifax/Experian monitoring service, even when O2 update your credit files you may not be able to see the change on your file as free reports update at best every 30 days (but other companies should be able to see the cleaned file).

Yes I can believe that as it is similar to what happened to me last time!
This is why I suggested no one cancels their DD as although their CS may say you owe them nothing (and you don't!), their system may still try billing you but the payment system not actually take the money and then report it as a missed payment. My SD was still in force and still they reported missed payments.
Just make sure you watch your bank accounts and it is worth signing up for the free credit report services just to check all is in order (most people will no doubt be fine and nothing to worry about, but when it goes wrong it can be quite stressful!).
Anon
24 Jul 17#27
The starting point was emailing [email protected] to point out their error and that you expect them to remove the error and update your credit file immediately. If that does not get it resolved, their formal complaints email is [email protected]

I use all three free services - Noddle, MSE and ClearScore so that I cover all three credit agencies (not all companies report to all three). When you sign up you have to prove identity so they ask about some of your existing accounts and may ask to register a credit card as part of their identity check (just make sure you are signing up for the free service).

I assume because a)the phone was so new (bought the 2.June.2017) b) there was an outstanding fault on the device (22.Jun.2017), which was scheduled for repair but not carried out and it looks like the phone was just returned to 02 instead (then resold with being fixed first)
to be honest I wasn't feeling that good otherwise I may have pushed on the replacement, but it was obvious there was something odd with the phones background.
I then went to the 02 shop after explaining what Apple had said, the lady tried to get away with its a nearly perfect phone, I pointed out that applies to the casing and the screen with the limit on scratches etc and the main working parts of the phone should work anyway.
I thought it was an odd thing she said when stating I will get what ever they send out as a replacement after I asked could I change the colour, surely you would get like for like on colour.
anyway bigger fish to fry today writing to the CEO about this shambles and the fact I found out last night I have a black mark on my credit file thanks to 02 shambolic accounting, according to them I owe £15, like hell i do

So it seems they have just returned the phone to 02 Who have either put a new casing (as it's perfect with no marks etc) on it and resold it to me with the major fault still not fixed
02 are doing a straight swap with the phone Really strange conversation First she said it is sold as almost perfect, I replied that applies to the casing & screen, you are also supposed to check that everything works and in this case quite clearly the camera does not work

Definitly worth it, trying to minimise any hassle.
Out of interest, do you actually have to have bought an O2 locked phone from O2 for them to unlock it? Or if you have an O2 contract, could you buy an O2 locked phone from elsewhere (second hand, for example) and them still unlock it free? So long as you have used the O2 contract SIM in that phone, so that that phone/IMEI is recorded on that mobile number on their network, then wouldn't they unlock it? If yes, then if you did end up getting a replacement phone from Apple (and therefore locked to O2), wouldn't they unlock it anyway if you use the SIM in the phone, then request an unlock?
nishadnb
22 Jul 17#9
Don't get the phone replaced by apple until your phone is unlocked. If they replace your phone as-is, you will get a new phone but locked to o2. And since. The imei number in the new phone is different and will not match with your o2 account, you will have a hard time getting it unlocked from o2.

They credit check you when you sign up for the first phone (you may recall they asked for how long you have been at your current address).
On the last 5S deal, they didn't bill me but another part of their system recorded a missed payment despite the direct debit still being in force. It led to a red flag on my credit file, only discovered when I was rejected for a current account (since signed up for all free credit monitoring reports). They did similar on a previous desk too (that time they refunded the final bill to an old unused account that appeared somewhere in the archives of their system and the current bank account that I had registered with, then again didn't notify me of their error and reported it as a dent to the credit reference agencies).
Both resulted in formal complaints, both did not show on my online account, both eventually sorted after months of hassle.
Just watch them, that is all I am saying.

what's happened to you is quite common with these 02 refresh deals you will be refunded (in the end) and usually the early termination fee bills get cancelled once this is sorted theses deals are great, its just the hassle when you cancel
