I always wonder what people mean when they describe a car marque as a "premium" brand? Does this mean that they're products are more reliable, better warranty, better mpg, rarer, or is it simply that they're more expensive and perceived by some to have "snob" value therefore appealing to those with such low self esteem that they think ownership of a particular brand will in some way boost how others view them?

So basically, if you buy a t-shirt from primark, it's just a t-shirt, made with cheap materials which comes with a cheap price, if you go to say boss or viv westood, anywhere in Mayfair really, then that's premium. . Same goes with cars, you have cheap models from every car manufacturing company. But then you have your premium lines, such as Lexus, infinity, Audi, BMW. Better quality, higher prices.
united4eva to admpgk
3 Jun 17#45
IMO should be better build quality and choice of materials and components which you are paying for and generally a nicer place to be eg reassuring thud of door closing instead of tinny hollow feel. In my experience mostly but not always true. in my current golf I don't see much quality difference between this and a Honda Civic. No insult to the Golf just that the Civic is very well put together. However a recent W205 C class I had. Wow, was genuinely a luxurious place to be. No snob factor here, the small things were really well thought out from the way the heated seats automatically lowered heat over time to quality feel of window switches.
Would categorically say pricing/marque has NO bearing in reliability.

I've often wondered why it costs more per month, the longer you have the lease?
I thought that the bulk of depreciation occurs in the first year, so by the end of year 2 it's lost more in percentage terms than a year later.
So on a 3-yr deal you have then paid another £2,412 to them in yr 3, compared to £2,340 in yr 2.
It's just that I think it's better these days to hold the car for 3 years then you are not paying as many set-up fees, and assuming you don't do too many miles, you should just about get away without brakes and tyres (and MOT).
eagle-i to thelatics
2 Jun 17#29
2 year old cars have better re-sale value due to the car still having manufacturers warranty. Hence I've found 2 years deals are cheaper than 3 year deals.

Little lights on the bottom of the wing mirrors that light up when you press the key to open the doors. The idea is that you can see if you're about to step in a puddle. First world problem solved.

Is it wise getting a diesel at the moment with the proposed hammering of diesel drivers? Be OK if it all goes on the car tax as it's included on the lease but talk of having diesel taxes for driving in certain cities which worries me as I work in Birmingham.
gazjon to wolvesinwales
2 Jun 172#30
There will be no "hammering of diesel drivers". Modern diesels are a lot cleaner than older models, and with the previous governments advocating buying diesels for their economy, any action is likely to be taken to persuade owners of less clean models to replace theirs.

2 Jun 17#32
And I bet you are you are one of those with low self esteem boosted by their premium car and trying to snob other people when they question the real value of premium.
I would say the manufacturers call their premium brands as they believe those models have better equipment, comfort, or anything else of value and they can charge more for it. It's up to you to decide if you think the premium is good value or not, it's just personal choice I guess
admpgk
2 Jun 172#35
Oh dear! Just clarifying that I wasn't coming at this from the standpoint of being a jealous poor relation car wise.
You're assuming that I had a choice on what cars were made available? As it happens all those on offer were from the perceived "premium" brands. Would I buy one of these with my own cash? I really doubt it as no one has yet provided me with a rational and objective reason why anyone should, so therefore I guess it really is totally subjective and down to each and everyone's own preference for what they want to spend their money on!

Yet you are paying the depreciation with leasing and the greatest drop in depreciation is at the beginning.
You see bargains bucking the tread is normally due to a couple of situations. First the manufacturer have over estimated demand (several reasons why that may be but the estimate is started years in advance) and have a surplus of stock. Here it makes sense for them to refinance the capital they have tied up that will not impact customers that buy new whilst a few years down the line put back onto the market a low mileage well maintained product that holds its premium over the other routes. The other reason is when they are loss leading to improve demand and brand/product awareness.

Not my cup of tea, but still a good deal OP.
Don't really see why some feel the need to pass judgement on others for their choice of car.
Premium simply means 'more upmarket' or 'a bit nicer'. It's not for everyone though, so if you don't like it, or have different priorities then you are perfectly entitled to buy something else. But if you do like it and have the means to pay for it, then why not? Especially at this price.

Depends on the milage. The service interval is 15.500 Miles so if you do 15k no need to service. If you do above it seems like that the official service price is around £275 / sevice, so that might save you money not to go for the 3 year plan if you do below 30K
