Thanks for your considered critique. FYI the soundsticks were designed in the late 90's by our own Jonny Ives (yes, Apple's chief designer). They have won numerous design awards and a set is on permanent display at the New York Museum of Modern Art. I like to think i'm open to innuendo as anyone but never once have i thought that the speakers resemble a dildo. I have a set of these (speakers that is) and the sound volume is perfectly acceptable for me.

Again, you've made up things I never said but have this time resorted to name calling and asking silly questions designed to provoke. You've really embarrassed yourself and shown your level of debate is probably best suited to a Jeremy Kyle episode.
Oh, and you've tested many speakers of this price tag and know lots about audio quality but have only ever posted deals to a pair of 6w speakers costing £5.49. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, I'll admit, they're probably good compared to those that you're used to. LOL.

You are a very silly person, keyboard warrrior it seems and you know nothing about audio equipment. These are around £100 worth speakers aside from the discounted price they are at now and you deluded person think there will be audiophile levels of quality? What planet are you on you baffoon? I have reviewed and tested many speakers of this price tag and these are one of the best. Go to sleep!

Err, it's a "Best 2.1 speaker award" from a stupid tech gadget site, they print the marketing blurb they were given and stick a girl in a bikini on the front page holding a stick of ram like a d1ld0
I just did suggest a better alternative.
I never suggested people were assuming they were going to get "audiophile levels of sound", I was just stating this was unlikely.
I'd dispute that if you link to a review stating that they have a 'great sound' that then, "nobody is expecting that nor are we paying for it", because clearly you are and just did.
I'm not sure why you want to reference your e-p3ni$ hi-fi as relevant or where you get the idea that I'm portraying myself as the world's authority on audio. I'm simply pointing out that there are simple highschool physics reasons why tiny speakers sound awful, any Engineer will happily tell you the same thing.
2.1 speakers are basically a marketing niche, people tell themselves they don't want large speakers on their desktop, so manufacturers will happily flog them a flawed system that splits a speaker into two parts, the tweeter and the bass unit.
This concept will always sound poo no matter how much you pay for it.
You already know this, other people may not have thought it through or understand the physics behind why it sounds poo. They may indeed not be able to tell poo from their elbow.
You've rationalised that you want the smallest speakers possible and you want something 'designery' to look at. That's OK.
My rationalisation is that I am willing to sacrifice a bit more desk space for a significantly better sound.
If you decided you simply wanted better sound and nothing else, then you'd do the same as me.

Best 2.1 speaker award. Find me a better set for similar money and with universally good reviews.
You're the one jumping to conclusions here pretending that people are buying these and wanting to run audiophile levels of sound, where in fact nobody is expecting that nor are we paying for it.
Coming from a set of Yamaha NX50 for PC usage they're a marked improvement.
For reference I've a rather nice HiFi setup of Rega gear and PMC speakers (£XXXX) so please don't assume you know more than anybody else, you don't.

21 Jun 17#139
I guess you didn't read anything you quoted :-
"Voice, piano, strings, will tend to sound a bit more thin and boarder
line tinny with the SoundSticks. Given those 4 little 1-inch tweeters
in each stick are being asked to produce sound they just are just not
very good at physically reproducing, and the subwoofer is also being
asked to create a lower mid range, nearly impossible for a sub, which is
designed to produce sound in the 50Hz and below, to sound good up to
250Hz or more. It is just hard for these subwoofer and super small
satellite designs to get the mid range correct."
I think we can safely ignore the Tech journalists lazy cut-n-pasting of HK's marketing copy, and just refer to those who review Hi-Fi as a job.
You will never get a sub/sat system to sound anything other than mediocre to appalling, the physical compromises are too great, you can sit there and be indignant all you like but you will never get a real Hi-Fi reviewer to agree with you.
However if all that is being asked is to replay beep-boops from a computer game, than I'm sure they are fine. HK do in fact make some very fine conventional speakers.
If anyone cares, a pair of secondhand Mission speakers for around the same price will blow these toys out of the window.
Just because it's for a PC doesn't mean anyone should rush out and buy "PC speakers", there are much better components to be had.

2) Wireless
Or purchase a Bluetooth receiver and connect this to SoundSticks and pair Echo Dot with receiver via Bluetooth.

Apologies to greavesy1984 if he ( and i assume it is a he (?)) is miffed at some of the barbed comments directed his way following my reply to his initial post. Since then, I have carried out a survey on the vibrator market, for scientific accuracy purposes only i hasten to add. I now see that a Soundstick speaker can indeed resemble certain jumbo sized clear dildos. The net result is that some of the magic has gone from the iconic design for me because every time i look at the speakers, a dildo is all i can see. Revenge is sweet.

15 Jun 17#78
Not loud enough? These things get WAY louder than I would ever need.
I mean, no, they're not good enough for huge house parties or something, but for normal use? More than adequate. They also sound really good at volume for a system this size.
My only complaint, and it is a fairly big one - is that it comes with auto-shut off. Not awful on its own, but it takes a couple seconds to switch back on, meaning the first few seconds of a music track or video or whatever are silent. You'll also never hear individual OS chimes unless it's already on because of this.
I got this set for £60 a year ago or so new, on a deal(I think from John Lewis?) and I think that's about the perfect price for them. They look great, they sound great, but the auto-shut off is annoying and deducts a good amount of value from it. Wouldn't buy at £100, but can definitely recommend at this price, so long as you can live with the annoyance I mentioned.

Having owned these previously for 2 years, sound quality is good. At this price, excellent. But, the subwoofer really needs to be positioned well.
Yay for a subwoofer, so tinny in one location and lumpy in another, I'm sure that will sound amazing.
Also how does this compare to a budget sound bar. I am planning not to spend more than £150. Will a sound bar with a woofer be better than these speakers?
Strangely the media seem to disagree with your ill informed (if informed at all) opinion.
Whoever said they weren't loud enough I can only assume they were trying to fill the O2 arena with sound. They sound great and have more than enough volume!
Thanks op.
1) Wired
Either connect 3.5mm audio out on Echo Dot to 3.5mm audio in on SoundSticks
2) Wireless
Or purchase a Bluetooth receiver and connect this to SoundSticks and pair Echo Dot with receiver via Bluetooth.
Does anyone have any thoughts if this would work?
Oh, and for the record...my orginal comment got 10 likes and the main naysayer has apologised on here as now he has some, kind of agrees with what I was saying.
Have a good day
The only issue I've had over the years is the volume control. As it touch control rather then depress a button, they can be a little temperamental. I find that sometimes I have to wet my finger to get the volume control to work properly.
Anyone care to comment on what the sound is actually like from the speakers?
the link is only a few posts back

but now OOS.
Still had another brand new one left after I got my one if anyone want one. (Longton, STOKE) store.
Strangely, when I checked the stock online it told me there was one left & it was on display. So I was going in to try to haggle more off it when I spotted 3 brand new & boxed below the display model.
So worth a check anyway, stock checker was incorrect for sure.

Fantastic sound and fantastic value for money. I've just snapped up another two sets for Christmas presents. Combine with a Chromecast Audio for a really pleasing sound solution for your phone or tablet.

Picked mine up last night - first time I've managed to get a deal that's gone this hot!
Sound pretty good on first listen - auto off is bit annoying as is the fiddliness of the volume controls, a proper rotary control would be much better
BTW am I the only one here who thinks aesthetically these are disgusting?!
HARDON and their speakers look like dildos. They're taking the ****
but yeah, decent speakers if you want them to be seen, and can cope with the auto-off feature.
For anybody wondering RE bluetooth, add one of these and you're sorted.

Also how old are the people you are showing them to ? as they sound like a bunch of kids to find them highly hilarious,I suppose they also wet themselves laughing every time they see a cucumber or banana in Tesco.
But perhaps, considering my photo, it was unwise for me to offer an opinion...
:man:
Hot. And I love the the fact they look vaguely like a dildo. :man:
I have them linked up with a Chromecast Audio and they work well!
You have controllable bass on the back of the Sub, then you adjust the sound volume on the right sound stick.
I think they are quite loud in fairness!
Google "clear Dildo" and tell me they don't look like one?
I got them refurbed at £80 or £90 a few months ago from a deal on here. The sound quality is OK but the're not loud enough and the speakers looks like something from Ann Summers - quite embarrassing when you see them in person.
By a company called 'Harman Kardon' and look like something from Ann Summers - I honestly think the design team were trying to take the **** out of customers when designing these.
heat
They have a lovely white/blue light that comes out of them when they are on, and it gives a nice little glow.
Really selling it aren't I?
It's great kit, but hardly ever used because of the lack of BT. :disappointed:

Although in the T&Cs it does say limited to first 2000.
Looks like wired according to the currys listing.
