This is the low ash VW/Audi spec 504.00/507.00 oil at 13 quid. Having just spent 51 quid at Audi I've scooped up a few of these. Oils for other cars also on offer atm.

You must hate your Audi, wouldn't use this oil in lawnmower.

Would you care to explain? If the oil meets the spec, what is wrong with it?

this.
and at this price you could change it twice as often and still save money over the name brands

Please expand on your comment. As far as I am aware Synthetic 5W/30 is the engine oil grade of choice due to it being able to handle a huge range of temperatures.....

Which I would argue may be better for your engine than leaving (perceived superior brand) in for twice as long.

Good Deal, this illustrates the psychological power of branding, ASDA evidently don't make oil so Walmart's buying power suggests that probably one of the big boys supplies them. Does anyone know who? A brand has an emotional irrational appeal , even the love or hate of Audi, owners forget most engines and parts are common with SEAT and Skoda. You never really know what you're actually buying.

Tetrosyl also known as Carlube makes the oil for Asda.

fully synthetic is just that "FULLY SYNTHETIC" just like a hdmi lead for a pound or a thousand pounds does exactly the same job. so this oil came from the same place as the best oul money can buy. and it has to have gone through the same process and tests as the expensive one. so this is a bargain. thank for posting op

I use this in my Octavia and like in one of the comments I change it every 6 months because it's cheaper than the branded ones to do so. Been using it over 3 years now and never had a problem. Even better when you get an extra 10% off when you know someone who works there :-)
All Asda's own range of oil is currently at 50% off.

Genuine Quantum which is what the dealers use and sell (and TPS) can be bought for £20 for 5L or £36.99 for 10L so for anything over 2000cc, you will probably need to buy two, saving £5.50 per can.
I would prefer to spend the extra and buy the Quantum but a good price OP
Thanks OP Meets the Spec at a fraction of the cost of the Brands that spend Millions on Advertising, doesn't have to be a HOOVER to clean the carpet.

Have a browse on this site if your interested in oil quality. ukla-vls.org.uk/lat…ws/ Trust me oil companies grass each other up if they suspect oil is out of spec and has been said in a previous post most oil is purchased from the same sources as there aren't that many to choose from when your into specific grades.
The specs that are quoted on engine oils come from additive suppliers and not the base oil suppliers - you just have to make sure you blend with the recommended base oil in order for the additives to reach the specs.

Thanks. I've used this oil lots in the past - always aim for 10k oil change. 290k so far trouble free motoring so it can't be all bad. I have used Quantum too in the past - it seems to need topping up more quickly than with Asda or triple QX

Great find. I've used the 5-40 oil many times. As said, it's made by Tetrosyl as I've seen it come out of the box. As long as it meets the specs! 507 00 then it's fine for that application. It's a cracked hydro carbon! If you really want top spec oils then your looking at the likes of Motul 300V double Ester based oils and Gulf Competition ( Made by Millers oils) but it does cost.

Branded oil is expensive because it costs a lot of money to get approvals from car manufacturers for use in their vehicles. There's also that rumour of oil company's keeping the good base stock for themselves, and selling the low end stock to the smaller, competition.

TRIPLE QX Fully Synthetic Engine Oil - 5W-30 - 5ltr much better fully synthetic oil on Euro carparts website works out at £19 if you use the code "WEEKEND60" at checkout
Don't think this one is but they'll have other oil that will. Go in to your branch and they'll have a book which you can check your car model against to see which is the right oil/spec for your Honda.

I'd previously bought the EuroCarParts Triple QX oil whenever they had it on offer, but the ECP offers don't seem to be as good as they used to be. I bought the Asda 5W40 fully synthetic when it was last on this £13 offer and my car's been fine on it.
For the same cost of an annual change of expensive branded oil I can use this stuff every 6 months. After 6 months even swanky oil is going to be full of carbon and contaminants (which aren't exactly lubricants!) so I reckon my engine is getting better treatment with this approach.

My 19 year old Peugeot 306 TD has spent the last 10 years or so on this Asda Synthetic oil. I change it once a year, never need to top up in between and the car still has it's original turbo, which is more than I can say for some people I know running the Volkswagen 2.0 TDi.
Am on the look out for the next car, but whatever it is, it will have the Asda synthetic oil.

I got some of this the other day, defiantly worth a try. If your engine sounds tappety after a few month just change the oil again. I don't understand long life oils or folks who don't change it every 6 months or so. As some folks have said, oil isn't just for lubrication, it acts as a coolant and is meant to pick up carbon and all the unburnt crap. If you strip an engine down you can tell the one which has had regular oil changes as there's no gummy crap in it, and there's a nice light brown sheen on parts.
