Not stocked in mine to start with but some packs of Stella artois lager and cidre are reduced by 50% (red label on shelf). Worth checking out local stores.

Sainsburys seem to be shifting stocks of beer. Just bought a load of Staropramen for half price and 500ml bottles of tyskie for 80p each. Definitely worth popping in to check...

No more Japanese than Stella Artois. This is now owned by what was Miller Brands UK (now Asahi UK), and brewed in the UK by Shepherd Neame, I believe. That said, if you like it, this is a great price, just don't fall for the marketing bs! :man:

Eh? It's brewed locally because it's popular and you can't meet demand by shipping it all over from Japan.
This is Japan's most popular beer, alongside Kirin and is found in pretty much every vending machine and supermarket in the country.

But it's not a Japanese beer if it's brewed over here. The ingredients maybe the same but as they come from different sources they affect the taste, usually not in a good way, but the brewers still expect the gullible to pay premium prices.
Stella brewed in the UK tastes inferior to that brewed on the continent.
US Southern Comfort tastes better than the one made in Ireland.
San Miguel in Spain tastes better than the one brewed over here.
That said, I'll be buying this if I can find it. Good spot OP

So if I make a dish like Sushi, here in the UK, it's not a Japanese dish because it wasn't made in Japan?

No it's Japanese style food, and probably not as good as you would find in Japan :man:

My local sushi is made by Japanese chefs, but this beer isn't made by Japanese brewers
Beer always tastes noticeably different when brewed under license outside of its home country

only the actual beer brewed in Japan is worth drinking. fed up with a popular imported beer then becoming brewed under licence...

I am a Jap but didn't realise this was the most popular beer! Shame we don't have Yebisu beer here in the UK...

This stuff takes bland to a new level. It's the James Milner of beers.

Well. I say this as a tourist looking in, having no numbers to back that statement up! It certainly is as readily available as Coke as far as I could see on my travels across the country...
I see the other guy's point. I personally would still call it a Japanese beer. Same as I would call a Budweiser an American beer. After having called it pisswater of course.
