Can't recommend the angel care ones enough. I know some people say they are overkill but it practically saved my little lads life.
Had a few false alarms which is a slight inconvenience but we were woken up once by it to find him blue in his cot. If it weren't for this I don't know what could have happened.

Also recommend Angelcare, thankfully no blue girls but it gives fantastic confidence and very few alarms. Ours has lasted 6 years and a few falls down the stairs.

If you have a spare phone, you can use the Dormi app. That means both parents can view the monitor, even works on 3G in case I miss my son whilst at work. A real cost saver.

+1 for the angel care. We originally decided against it and bought a Philips avent 570 (which is excellent btw). Baby diagnosed with reflux and friend suggested trying sleeping her on her front and gave us an angelcare due to the apparent increased risk of sids. Have used angel care ever since (though only the pad and base unit) with Philips avent monitor which has better range and battery life than the angelcare handset. We had a week of false alarms around 8 months but only 2-3 in the 6 months prior to that and none since. Benefits far outweigh inconvenience of false alarms and panic that ensues when it triggers whilst yours asleep!!

Angelcare was great for us with reflux too. A tip is you can have the chemist purchase the medicine in a nicer tasting flavour but it's much more expensive so they don't tell you about it
