Only that I don't need one but I really really want one...
I'd want to check the blades , considering they're a consumable item you'd want them to be a standard length so you can get replacements. I've no idea what a 'standard length' is though.
Looks decent although I'd like to see one in the flesh to judge for myself.

Was that an original Startrite or an import?

It's crap compared to my Scheppach HBS20 bandsaw..........except it is a Scheppach HBS20 painted blue.
The Aldi bandsaw is a chinese made Einhell who badge engineer for several makes. It is exactly the same as the Scheppach HBS20 sold by Screwfix for £109.
For £80 you will get a reasonably made little bench top bandsaw which will be transformed by fitting a decent blade as the one supplied is made of monkey metal and cheese. However a decent blade may be hard to find in the correct size.
Anyone who recalls the dreadful Burgess three wheeled bandsaws of the 60/70/80s will think this is a belter of a saw but, thanks to Herr Aldi's super returns policy, once you have used it and realise that it really is crap, you can get a full refund. Fantastic!
tuffsaws will be able to custom make any size blade you like, and their blades are fantastic

Years ago I bought a similar sized unit, different make, and had exactly the same problem. Used it once and sold it.

It's not really a chinese made Einhell. Einhell are an importer just like many others who buy from the chinese company that makes them. It's as much a Scheppach, Guild or other slap on brand importer as any other. If you wanted to find the real manufacturer name you'd have to look on alibaba.

Looks good for the price, as long as you know what to expect from it. With a 350W motor it'll be fine for cutting thin wood (e.g. plywood) and plastics, but as you edge over an inch thickness the blade will start to wander and the motor will start to slow so you'll need patience and a slower cut.

True enough but Einhell import these Workzone bandsaws on Aldi's behalf and provide the warranty support should anything go wrong.
The only difference between the saws is the price and mark-up negotiated by the importer/brand and the length of warranty.
Were I in the market for a small benchtop bandsaw like these, the Aldi price and 3 year warranty would be a no-brainer.

Like the aldi pictures of the man using the band saw with it perched on the dining room table.

I bought a Burgess 3 wheel bandsaw in 1964 and its still going. Yes it used to be a problem but there were a couple of mods brought out by other users and shown in the Model engineer magazine. I did both mods and its ran like a dream ever since. In fact since I retired 14 years ago its been in almost daily use with absolutely no problems whatsoever so I can safely say it has mor than paid for itself many many times over.
