Some great prices available if you play around with dates, of even if you're able to go in the first place?

Couple of points to note, car insurance isn't the cheapest with this deal but don't know if you can decline the car and arrange your own, if you wanted one?
It is possible to stay at the hotel and use disney transport to get to the parks (I'm guessing?).
Don't know if transfers were included in these prices as they include a car, if that makes sense?

Sanford is a nice airport, gets bigger every time I go but it's still smaller than Orlando (MCO) and it's usually a lot quicker to get through, the baggage reclaim/customs/immigration bit of it. (was an hour and forty minutes getting through Orlando in March  and it wasn't that busy!)
Downside to Sanford is it's about an hour north of where you want to be, which is something else to factor in when you're hot and tired and just want to sit down and grab a burger
The car hire company will tell you that you can use the quick/fast pay lane on any toll roads and it will be automatically billed to your credit card, which is great and really convenient.
But that convenience comes at a price as it's $3-4 a day service charge, when you use the toll road fast pay lane?
Not a great deal but it adds up if you're nipping on a toll road for one stop, say $1 charge but then a $4 service fee?
You can of course pay in cash at a booth but some of the booths are now unmanned and as such you need the correct change, which isn't always possible when you've only just landed?

Food can get expensive, depending where you want to eat.
Most of the fast food restaurants tend to have coupon booklets available which can help if there's something in them that takes your fancy?
Other restaurants tend to have specials on on certain days so it's worth googling or asking if you're there anyway.
Restaurants expect you to tip! Anything between 15-20% is considered normal and it's something I've done in the past, although the exchange rate at the minute makes tipping expensive so I'd only tip if someone has made your visit a pleasant one? (or is that just me being mean?)
A little like Zeek over here there are a couple of giftcard outlets online (giftcardgranny is one I've used before) where you can purchase a gift card and get it sent to your phone and then use in the restaurant you're thinking of visiting, doesn't always save you loads of money but it often covers the tip and you were going there anyway?

An ESTA is needed for entry into Florida (used to be the green I-94 visa waiver form that was free), it's $14 each applied for online before you go.
They last 2 years, but it's another £50 if there's 4 of you as everybody needs one (unless you've got the visa waiver in your passport but can't remember exactly how that works? Mine's stamped in my old passport so haven't tried using it since having the new one)

Don't forget to book the extra days car parking at the airport this side if you're taking the car?
It's a 14 day/two week holiday so you only need 14 days/two weeks parking?
Nearly all these flights land on the morning after you take off, so you lose a night flying back and this means you need 15 days car parking.
(only mentioning as I've done it before and the car wasn't there when I was! Didn't take too long to get it sorted but it was still something I didn't need after an 8 hour flight  )

Just thought I'd mention, hope it helps someone.

Time to go and tackle the plug that's stuck in the sink, can you tell I was putting off doing something

I have a family holiday to Florida coming up in a few weeks, only did an ESTA for me and my husband, not the kids. Didn't realise the children needed one until I read your comment. You have quite possibly saved us a holiday nightmare!! Thank you!

How is this place for someone like who can't drive? How is the public transport there like.?

Most hotels offer shuttle services to the main parks, but can get busy.

If you stay roundabout idrive there are trolley buses and most hotels have shuttle buses. If you can get round about kirkman or universal boulevard at idrive then its walking distance to universal and trolley buses to outlet malls. Plenty of places to walk to on iDrive. If you take a car and stay in orlando dont take tolls option on hire car. The first toll road out the airport going to idrive is staffed and I just use that to get change - give $10 and ask for quarters and singles. Just double check for roads with no cash tolls - they are more prevalenet further south in Florida (Tampa/Miami) but are sneaking up to Orlando. There gonna hurt if you go through without sunpass. About $20 billed by hire car company. Or do what we do, buy a sunpass unit at drug store/supermarket and register it with your car and pre-load dollars and avoid the ridiculous daily rate that car hire companies charge (it sometimes works out cheaper to pay fines than their rate).

If your planning to go just for Disney, you will be fine but if you are planning on seeing 'Florida' then a car is near enough mandatory.

Just booked ours! 14 days, fly out of Gatwick on 17/6, £906 for the pair of us. Coach and ESTA sorted. Only thing left to pay for is park tickets I suppose!

This is my first time to America, and her first time since she was a kid. Bit excited now!

So sorry to hear that. Only thing to suggest is ring them up and explain the situation. You may get a sympathetic customer service rep. Alternatively, they may allow you to move the holiday to a date that fits, although you may have to pay extra for a different date.

Just this minute booked 10 days holiday with direct flights on Thompson Dreamliner staying at highly rated (on Trip Adviser) Sonesta Es Suites in Orlando (near Orlando Eye on International Drive) from Manchester on 23/5/17 arrives back 3/6/17. Includes breakfast & car hire. JUST FOUND OUT WE CANT GO coz my daughter has a really important exam. I'm a single parent & can't afford to lose £1,350. CAN ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE as the flight is a week tomorrow??

Great price and heat added. Will be that person almost when you factor in the cost of the park tickets. Re car insurance, the cat itself comes with insurance you will just have high excesses which can be paid locally but this is where they make their money. Instead, Google "car hire excess waiver insurance". There are companies that offer insurance against the excess. Costs pennies compared to what you would be charged. Always have a car and have always never taken out any extra insurances. Yes you would need to cover the excess amount should you need to make a claim but you can claim this all back when you get home.

Funnily enough, take out the kids and use 2 adults only and the price rockets. Unreal.

Also the parking in likes of Disney is $20 a day so anyone with a car try park it elsewhere and get transport to Disney area and then the Disney buses around the parks. I never hired a car out there and managed on the trolley rides and Lynx buses.

Mum2ConnornCerys
15 May 17 1 #25
Sometimes have to be careful with car hire the insurance can be as much on these ones included with holiday than if you go out and hire elsewhere.
If you haven't already got an ESTA I would recommend getting permission for visiting before booking, again an extra cost per person going, even children need permission. It will be costly to eat there, when I did Disney etc for 3 weeks I hired a villa. We ordered pizza takwaway one evening and one day we ate out at an unlimited buffet. It was so hot we barely ate much most days, but drank water by gallon lol.
