Unfortunately ritchie your judgment is quite clouded. I'm confused for a start why you would comment on a deal you've got no interest in at all and not offer anything to back your claims up. Personally I used to go to the gym a lot when I was younger but I've never had a decent diet. By decent I don't mean eating constant protein and shakes. Now I'm older and work longer and longer hours, I've found slimming world a breath of fresh air as it fits in around my hectic life. I now have a plan to follow and have never felt healthier, after losing a stone in 5 weeks. It looks like you rate yourself as per your profile picture, however I've met a lot of people who lack any confidence. You're missing a major point and that is the group sessions provide people with the motivation and belief that they can carry on. Compared to a fitness trainer in a gym that help is very cheap. So try not to be so narrow minded, everyone is different with their own outlooks and what works for you might not work for me. For those who do the program you should be proud regardless of what others say. For those thinking of joining, I can really recommend it. Don't knock anything or comment until you've tried something!

It does work that way, though. Slimmingworld has convinced you to pay money to lose weight, and to keep you there for a long time making you feel reliant on them otherwise you'll fail. It does NOT teach you a damn thing.

I have coached many people including bodybuilders to win shows. I started by helping normal people (not interested in anything other than losing weight) -- I myself started from being overweight and got into shape by learning, for free, no money spent. All learnt through text on a screen.

Don't get bitter and bitchy because you think paying to lose weight is normal.

Brilliant, great that worked for you. Even better if it worked for some other people. Shame that 1) you can't help everyone as there's not clones of you across the entire UK and 2) whatever your approach, it isn't going to work for everyone. That's the way of the world. But I'm glad you have a pre-defined idea of what's 'normal' when it comes to, well, anything in life, let alone something as subjective as health and weight loss.

Anyhow, aside from the narky comments detracting from this post, my better half is a few pound away from losing 7 stone in a year by using Slimming World. Not once has exercise figured into their plan, they never go hungry and quite simply changed their diet and stick to it. Attending the weigh-ins simply keeps them on track, but they no longer need the classes. By the way, when you reach target, you no longer pay and you can get tons of Slimming World recipes on the website for nowt (as well as tons of other resources) so no, they're not all about keeping paying for an eternity.

Don't be put off by the narky commenter, it may be the lifestyle change that works for you.

1. Being proud of losing weight is not 'ideal' - exercise is beneficial to everyone, and everyone has time to do it. Even though you don't NEED to exercise to lose weight, you should.

2. Everyone is not the same in terms of adherence, absolutely, but in terms of losing weight we are all the same.

3. Paying for weight loss groups/programs that don't teach you a thing, eg, give you a method to follow by eating based off POINTS is ridiculous. Period.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Lazy people who don't want to exercise, losing weight by changing their diets. It's terrible. They certainly shouldn't be proud of their achievements, even if they've spent a lifetime battling with their weight issues.

You mentioned "POINTS" but you're thinking of Weight Watchers. I'm not on a diet I'm on a food optimising program. This is working for me, going weight lifting with my mate who's won countless shows, didn't. It's obvious you can do it for free, what else is the Internet for, we're not all stupid here, but nothing else personally worked for me except SW. I don't care paying £200/yr for something that works for me. Thanks for your reply though :smiley:
