still seems quite pricy, what does this offer over say a Xbox, cheap eBay or Amazon controller?

It's a motion controller, so more like a Wiimote than a traditional controller. You can use it to navigate menus like it's a laser pointer, and quite a few games support it as a new control method. For example, in Drop Dead you can use the controller to aim your gun rather than using gaze to aim.

Without it you have no arms, with it you have one arm.

So a good upgrade for VR2 users, not VR3 as it's included, cool.

Do you need to use it with the VR headset?
Can it be used as a joystick for playing non-VR games?
I just found this in the description: ... use it as a gamepad ...

Still expensive for what it is imho
Good deal for today, but I wouldn't take it for more than 20, as the gear vr 2 (last year's model) can be had for 35 new on eBay or gumtree.
In a month or two the vr3 with included controller is likely to be 55-60

makes it much more convenient to FF through the boring bits of XXX movies (GearVR's primary use  )

I tired a relatives Playstation VR setup, yes more games, but for me the graphics were as poor as the Gear VR2, it was no quicker and had a chunky cables(s), whereas my VR2 ( oh i returned it) was just as good now cables (bit battery could let your down) with the controller i think its close enough and better still it was free with my S7 or £100 to buy versus £350+ for the Playstation VR.
And no its not just porn, lots of apps/games which with the controller will be superb, the graphics are all poor (i have also tried the OCulus setup in John Lewis working off a top end PC) but the way they emerse you is cool, but you lose track of time until the mobile battery dies.
I waiting for the 360 / VR3 to come down to sub £150 and that will be cracking for home videos/photos.

In a sense, i quite agree with you. However, the problem is finding it on ebay or amazon. I haven't been able to find one reasonably priced or on auction so i'm really considering buying this. If you think about it, you'd probably eventually find one for about £30 on ebay but it would prolly not come with a warranty or it may have expired even if you buy it new...

do these work with the V1 VR, or do you have to keep using the daft buttons on the side? Barely used mine because of the unintuitive controls.

Anyone know if this comes with the 2x batteries required?

Oh, you haven't picked it up yet? I doubt it will contain the controller. That pack cost well over £110 RRP but do keep us posted in the feedback forum. Thanks.

slightly off topic so apologies OP, can anyone recommend Bluetooth earphones for the Gear VR or is it a case of any Bluetooth earphones will do? Thanks
I am trying to hack my Moto X Style to work in the Gear VR headset. It fits like a glove in the headset via the micro usb port. I have installed all the Oculus files via apk mirror sites. I can launch the Oculus store and browse games (all outside the headset). I can even download but won't install as I get an error. I think Gear Vr Services is missing which I did install but can't figure out how to launch the vrwizardsetup file. Am trying to edit the build prop file now so phone is seen as a Note 7. Basically I would love to get this fully working without having to buy another phone

Is this supposed to be a joke? £99.00! Any headphones/earbuds that pair to the phone will work.

it does come with 2 batteries. It appears inside vr and copies your movements like a wiimote as people said. It's a lot more comfortable and natural than the touchpad on the headset. It also has a little wrist grip string to stop sweaty handed slackers throwing it across the room.

Great deal as the gear vr is amazing for how much it costs vs ps4 etc. Heat added, still expensive but then it has just come out!!!

Looks like it's to attach the controller to the headset strap when your not using them. Nice idea if it is!

thats what its for, to keep the remote attached to the headset when not being used.

RRP is £49 so this represents a 30% saving. (Use the code VRTH1RTY to get this price).
NB Works with all the "old" Gear VR Headsets and S6/S7 VR enabled phones.
