Bought this torch last year when it was available, excellent value for money, tough the pouch doesn't fit as it should. Very good lighting distance and brightness, well worth the money.

I have a couple of these.
Good torches, well made, robust, plenty of light and throw for mere mortals, last long enough, available locally to most people and a warranty you can use easily.
Yes, there are this that and the other puppies privates torches and ooooh it's not 5.37842 metric watts per amp hour whatevers....
It's bright it's cheap it's well made. Fine for most people.
PS Some people need to get a life..

For a £15 budget i'd recommend the Thrunite T10, not 2xAA but it's 1xAA. Very good for the money.
For 2xAA the Thrunite Archer 2AV3 (£20-25 though).
If you are serious about getting a decent light then i'd highly recommend looking at getting a lithium based light, they have a much higher power density. Something like the Eagle Eye X2R is £12 delivered with £5-10 for a 18650. It has usb rechargeable and it's 500 lumens and lasts much longer.
Or the Atactical A1 is a good buy if it doesn't NEED to be AA or AAA.

5W and a 3.5 hour runtime out of 2 AA batteries? Where do I buy these mythical 5,800mAh batteries?
The other numbers check out though. 3.5h on a pair of 2,500Ah 1.5v batteries is 1.07W which looks a little optimistic for 160 lumens for the XT-E LED but is in the right ballpark.
I guess this has an end-mounted on/off button?

The £9.99 ones they have been selling and still are in our local Aldi are excellent. I would think these will be as good.

Not a bad light for the money. But a lot better can be had for a bit more money. If you're going trekking with a light don't spend £6.99 or at least get one that's waterproof.

Have this exact Torch form when Aldi had it on sale previously, about 6 months ago. I use it daily and it has given me good service, highly recommended. I have lightly greased the threads of the battery cap and lens cap and have used it when it is raining and not had any issues myself. YMMV of course.

Noway it's 5w. The max power of the LED is 5w when driven at like 2A. This is likely 350ma driven which would fall in line with 160lumens of a blue tint bin of the XT-E.
Again, old LED, blue tint, not waterproof, crappy zoom feature. Not bad for the price but pretty poor in comparison to even £20 lights.

Can any of you recommend something specific for up to £15, but must be powered by 2x AA,

Yes, it has a recessed on/off mode button, which means that you can stand it on its end which I find particularly useful. As others have said this isn't 5W torch, probably nearer 1.5 - 2.0W . It's £6.99 with with a 3 warranty, thats a warranty where you can walk into a local Aldi store and get your money back. Its not a LED Lenser or some other fancy brand, but it is more than adequate and bright enough for most situations. If it's not for you, don't purchase it, move on. Simples. Heat added and many thanks OP for posting.
