Drastically inferior you say? Please enlighten me to these drastic margins of inferiority.
This is available with 6gb ram and 128gb storage. I could argue the S8 is drastically inferior to this.
Having had the HTC M7 for two years and then the S6 for two years ..... I can honestly say I miss the HTC

I have just given my new S8 to my daughter and retained my HTC 10. As beautiful as the S8 was the fingerprint scanner is in a hopeless position and the retina scanner unreliable, the battery life is poor too (probably why out of the box it's set to low resolution). Plus Samsung have messed around with Android to much.
The squeeze thing likely is a gimmick but at least the fingerprint scanner is in an accessible place and the sound will be class like HTC always are.

Re my previous post - HTC club DOES work, it just takes time to get a login. You initially get signed up to the newsletter, but eventually you get access to the discount store. U11 for £584 as OP notes, plus 40% discount on accessories.

HTC club sign up doesn't seem to work any more. When you input your email address it simply adds you to a marketing distribution list, and you can't log in to the HTC club website as you don't have a password. The "authorisation" email you are sent to verify your email address only confirms you to the mailing list, and there is no way of creating a user account with password.

No. I've sent them two separate emails asking if they will price match as I want to buy from Amazon. Both times I got a standard "We try and price our products competitively" type email that didn't even mention the HTC U11 phone I had asked about.

Because it offers no advantage whatsoever when there are storage tiers - it's just another thing to go wrong, get left in the device when you sell it, fill up with cruft from previous devices. It's about time cards died off and manufacturers started offering truly decent internal storage - which is both *much* faster and more reliable than any SD card. Seems that massive amounts of RAM have hit even mid range devices but manufacturers are still being a bit stingy with their internal storage.
I was really disappointed when Samsung took a backwards step with the S7 by introducing the SD card back but leaving only the option of 32GB. The 64GB in the S8 is an improvement but you still can't get a 128GB option like you could with the S6 and can with the Pixel.
Just my personal opinion obviously but there you go!

AMOLED isn't universally better IMO - IPS offers more consistent panels and I still think the colours look more natural. I've had both the S8 and the S8+ in the last month so I've certainly had the 'best' when it comes to AMOLED. The contrast ratio is of course excellent but there's just something I prefer about the look of IPS panels, and it's also nice that you don't have to worry about screen burn.
Not sure where you got the idea about most devices in this price point using AMOLED - seems to be a mixed bag to me. The G6 uses IPS for example, as well as the iPhone and all Sony phones. HTC have a history of preferring IPS panels, and usually put really excellent ones in their devices.

Still rocking my HTC one m8 3 years on , been a fantastic phone and the build quality is the best of any phone I've seen , camera is awful but I hardly ever use it anyways , the software for HTC is pretty good too , looking at upgrading this year and I'm tempted by this but I think it'll just be too familiar with what I have now and I'd like a change , got my eye on the OnePlus5 or the Google Pixel 2

I still feel S8 design is much better, this phone is too glossy for my liking !! It may give issues if you're using phone in direct sunlight, too much reflections.
Camera is better than S8 as per dxomark but S8 camera still is very good. S8 do support HDR content which is very nice. HTC has better speaker sound but no headphone jack. (disappointing) !
I am not sure if display is as good as S8 but design wise S8 is much attention seeking phone !
Also i am not sure why they introduced HTC Edge sense, come on it is phone not a sponge. How many times you have squeezed your phone ? i do it only if i am super annoyed ! many people appreciating it but I don't think it will be very useful just like S8 Edge panel.

Hi all,
Last year I did pre order the HTC 10 to replace my M7 - when it came out and I was disappointed with the phone to be honest, I did not feel any innovation from HTC swapping from M7 to 10, now year after I'm stuck on January security updates (USA just received MAY security updates) + android nugat 7.0 - the 90 day software update promise never happened, battery is a pain, USB-type C cable stopped fast charging - headphones stopped working - everything was replaced by HTC though, I would wait for the first reviews though - especially about the battery life on this phone - this is just my own experience and suggestion.

There haven't even been any reviews for the U11 yet so that's not true.
And according to DXO Mark which is generally viewed as the most knowledgeable site for camera reviews, the U11 has the best camera of any phone out at the moment and to top Samsung in that department is big.

Everyone must give credit to HTC with the introduction of first ever any 'premium' Android phone (M7) - it's only after that Samsung and others started to ditch cheap plastics for premium build to compete with iPhone!
It's real shame that HTC are heading into non-existence even though their phone's are really good but people are not buying for whatever reason!

I've been following this since 'day one' starting with an HTC Desire, Sensation then an M8.
The only reason I didn't go for a 10 is because its really wasn't that much above the M8 - in my opinion
This most definitely is. Opions vary wildly on Bezel or no. I don't really care.
Yes they've swapped their design ethos about, yes they've lost huge amounts of market sector.
Doesn't make the phones - in my opinion - wildly different from the competition in terms of capability or usability

Oh how cute, you think because HTC makes it that means their camera will be as good?
Why is the Pixel so good? Read the reviews and you'll find out it's google's machine learning software above any of the technical components. Operative word there being 'google's'.
You know who else's cameras are often poor? Sony's. You know who makes the sensors for lots of the best smartphone cameras such as Samsung? Sony.
Nice try, better luck next time when you've finished blushing in that corner you were talking about

HTC warranty has always been two years and this is an official UK phone with HTC standard 2 year UK warranty.
It's not that I don't trust Samsung warranty but it's a grey import from Italy, so you're relying on an EU warranty for two years.
I'm not sure if you have heard there is thing called Brexit? (it was on the news) well this means the UK are leaving the EU, so you won't be protected by law and you will be relying on Samsungs "good will" for for warranty.
If you prefer a S8 then fine, buy one but do yourself a favour and don't compare apples with pears.

Take the DXO with a pinch of salt, plenty of phones with 'top DXO ratings' have had meh cameras. It's a benchmark rather than real world test.
Reality is iphone and samsung cameras have been ahead of the pack for years, with Google's Pixel taking over both this year. Would be amazed if this HTC can compete, but lets wait for the reviews.
Also the bezels on this make it look instantly dated (not suggesting you need no bezels like Samsung but even the G6 shows what can be done). Add to that this screen is very unlikely to compete with Amoled, again lets wait for the reviews. Even Apple is going Amoled now though.
HTC is in a sad situation. They had the best design chops of any Android OEM but sales didn't back them up. They've been in the wilderness for years now rushing from one big redesign to another. Reality is they just don't have the resources for R&D that the big boys have, and underneath them the Chinese have been making better, cheaper phones for years imo.
I really hope they turn it around, but as someone who's watched from day one, I fear this phone is another misstep. They should have just taken the 10 as a base and improved everything about it. As it is we have yet another redesign that's both ugly and non-descript at the same time.

Don't need a review to tell you you don't like something. Great that find the position good, but others don't, including me. I can't say if the U11 is better than an S8 as they haven't been properly reviewed yet, but I can say I only lasted two weeks with my S8 before going back to my HTC 10. That's my first Samsung and it didn't tickle my pickle

HTC Sense is a pain. Any time I access anything, Sense wants in on the act, and you can't shut it off, just have to keep saying no. Otherwise, I'm more than happy with my HTC 10, not worth going to this new phone for me.

I just click Yes or allow and it never asks again. Sense is only asking so it can integrate the feature or app in question into sense itself for widgets etc. Works wonderfully for me.

That's odd.
I got an email to confirm email address etc but doesn't let me log in it says the email address isn't valid. When I click that link it says "stale login request"

Get a Samsung?
Is anyone buying into this squeezy phone business? Seems like a rubbish gimmick to me.

Bluetooth earphones are really cheap now also QC3.0 means it charges faster so plugging in a charger and earphones in at the same time isnt really an issue

but then you have to charge the headphones too. life was simpler in the 3.5mm jack days

Anyone actually get this discount to work? Doesn't let me register
Looks decent, no 3.5mm but includes a 3.5mm to USBc adapter. I fancy going back to htc since I had the m7, little much 584 for a phone though for me maybe when it's middle 3's

Thanks op still preferred my HTC 10 over my S8, given it to my daughter now.

This is available with 6gb ram and 128gb storage. I could argue the S8 is drastically inferior to this.

I was hoping they would drop their price, but if not, I'll probably buy from Car Phone Warehouse (unless the oneplus 5 gets announced over the next few days).
in this model its in the adaptor
on the htc 10 its in the device...
I keep getting the error message "STALE_LOGIN_REQUEST" when attempting to register.
It's £599.99 at Carphone Warehouse. It's £649.99 at Amazon, but I've emailed them asking if they will price match.
Not sure where you got the idea about most devices in this price point using AMOLED - seems to be a mixed bag to me. The G6 uses IPS for example, as well as the iPhone and all Sony phones. HTC have a history of preferring IPS panels, and usually put really excellent ones in their devices.
?
"Because your inner ear is as unique as your fingerprint, the HTC USonic* audio platform analyzes your inner ear and automatically adapts the sound profile to optimize your listening experience."
Heat for this price though for a flagship
Camera is better than S8 as per dxomark but S8 camera still is very good. S8 do support HDR content which is very nice. HTC has better speaker sound but no headphone jack. (disappointing) !
I am not sure if display is as good as S8 but design wise S8 is much attention seeking phone !
Also i am not sure why they introduced HTC Edge sense, come on it is phone not a sponge. How many times you have squeezed your phone ? i do it only if i am super annoyed ! many people appreciating it but I don't think it will be very useful just like S8 Edge panel.
It goes without saying Sony make excellent cameras. Please make sure you read properly yourself before suggesting others need to do more research...
Regards
That phone was in my pocket all the time. Keys, coins, everything. Not a bloody scratch. Then, when I DID drop it into a sink of washing up, they promptly replaced it.
And according to DXO Mark which is generally viewed as the most knowledgeable site for camera reviews, the U11 has the best camera of any phone out at the moment and to top Samsung in that department is big.
It's real shame that HTC are heading into non-existence even though their phone's are really good but people are not buying for whatever reason!
Thanks, I'll pass.
Sony.
Nice try, better luck next time when you've finished blushing in that corner you were talking about
It's not that I don't trust Samsung warranty but it's a grey import from Italy, so you're relying on an EU warranty for two years.
If you often use it on flat surface just change the automatically lock function to longer time period.
Why do you trust HTCs warranty but not Samsung's? HTC is only a year anyway vs 2 for Samsung?

Shame they don't make a pure android version.
I can easily unlock it with one hand while taking out of pocket just slightly moving my finger on scanner. It sounds like most of people dont even own the phone but just purely rely on reviews, and copy paste their opinions.
Same here.
Who cares about what the RRP is? This is Hot UK deals, we laugh at RRPs.
It's a nice looking phone, but it's still a HTC and they haven't made a competitively good phone since the M8 and even that wasn't all it could be.
It clearly isn't drastically inferior, but nor is it better, so why pay more?
I paid £649 for my official UK S8.
This is available with 6gb ram and 128gb storage. I could argue the S8 is drastically inferior to this.
