Wouldn't mind being stuck on an overnight train with him :man:

Is there a Portillo-free version ? Ghastly man, dreadful presenter.

I think the fact there's been 8 series of this, plus spin-offs, would suggest most people don't share your opinion.

Portillo is the ideal presenter as he has a love of railways.

Ah the old popular = High Quality argument. The bestselling newspaper in the UK is The Sun. Go figure.

Yep he knows his subject and he has an affable nature with the people he meets on his travels.
Bear in mind also it was him who saved the Settle-Carlisle line from the axe.

"“I wasn’t expecting any kind of publicity around it, but I was surprised when I got out at Carlisle the first thing I saw was a television camera. Then, as the train passed through each station on the line there were very large numbers of people waving banners with my name on them, all sorts of things. I was told later that an official in my department had leaked my visit. So you see, the line had friends everywhere.”
Yeah, right. I do lots of work for charity but I don't like to talk about it.

err...you just did. And I don't get your comment about the Sun. Nobody necessarily said this series was quality, but that it is popular. I have heard Portillo speak in person and found him very interesting. You, I find, are not.

You might like him, but you'd be wrong.

Get him and his nauseating clothing out of the country after Brexit.

??? Wasn't aware Brexit enabled the deportation of people with questionable taste in fashion!
I much prefer Portillo as a presenter than a politician, but he once cited his greatest achievement in office as being saving the Settle-Carlisle line.

Shane that the political zealots have to come and drone on with comments that nobody is interested in.
Lovely, interesting and relaxing programme and Michael does a great job presenting it.
Excellent price.

It was on the other side of the bus that said the NHS would be getting an extra £350 million a week
