That looks to be a bloody good deal. Can Quidco bring the price down further? :smirk:

I can't knock it, main cons per reviews was due to its high price, but with that reduction it now looks (at a cursory glance) to be one of the cheapest in that range.

Great for the gear as well. Just paid for a refurb 15' Alienware £850- with mouse and headset about £920. That only has a GTX1050 4GB (only want it for wow) so for the better processor, wayyyyy better graphics card, better screen aaand rucksack and accessories this is a fantastic deal. Although I dunno about thermals compared to Alienware? It's all fine getting a better value laptop but not if the thermals are going to roast it

I'm worried about G-sync. It looks, that it's something really nice to have, but only top spec laptops have that.
Any thoughts? Would be too silly to buy such a laptop and G-sync monitor at the same time?
(just to double check, do all 1060 and 1070 support G-sync?)

People have been getting on fine without Gsync monitors for a long time. It's nice to have but not exactly a deal breaker to lose. As you've said, it's still limited to a small number of high end laptops, so I wouldn't let it's absence put you off what is otherwise a very good laptop.

G Sync will only help if you're hitting above the fps that your monitor can take if im correct. I have a g sync monitor for my PC and a gtx 1070 etc and never get screen tear and never have v sync enabled and get like 100-150fps maxed out on RB6 Siege and that's demanding. V sync enabled reduces fps by like 20 fps. This laptop will run most games maxed out at 70fps so 50fps for a laptop is damn good, more on lower demanding games. That's just my opinion though. Wouldnt go for the 4k one though as this spec would not be able to hit 20fps on demanding games maxed out.

Laptops like this are not at all portable so i dont see why any potential buyer doesnt just build a desktop gaming pc or buy a pre built desktop gaming pc. They work out much cheaper and are fully upgradable.

How is it not portable?
I've been using a 17.3 XPS for the last 4 years and it's been everywhere with me. Been abroad with it countless times. Get a decent bag for it, not saying the one supplied here it not, and you can take it anywhere.

Great deal. I have a 1060GTX ASUS laptop of similar spec (i7, 16GB RAM, 128GB NVMe, 1TB HDD) but always wanted the Gigabyte version of it. It was just too much of a good price to pass up.
With a better GPU, double size NVMe drive, a bunch of extras and a comparable weight, I'd have probably gone for this.
Having said that, if it doesn't have G-sync, that's a crazy missing feature. I didn't think tearing was an issue until I started using it. Turning it on and off is really noticeable in FPS games.
2.8kg is not portable? That is comparable to a standard Dell laptop. This is easily portable. My 12 year old nephew moves mine around with ease.

This is only just about more expensive than a PC build of the same quality..Apart from the 1080p monitor...If looking for a medium-high end gaming laptop this is surely one of the best deals i've seen on here. It obviously goes without saying that a PC equivalent of £1,500 gives you a much better monitor as well.

30 May 171#14
Wrong. Gsync works in a range between 30fps and your monitor's refresh rate. It disengages when frame rate goes above your monitor's refresh rate and you get screen tearing.
In addition, Without Gsync, with Vsync enabled only, you get additional input lag of something like 20ms. Gsync effectively eliminates screen tearing as well as input lag. For proof just watch videos on a Battle Nonsense YouTube channel.
If I were to spend such amount of money on a laptop, I would aim for the one with Gsync. As a side note, I've got one and would never go back to a non-Gsync monitor as the difference is way too noticeable to ignore it

This x1000. Variable sync is a game changer, makes playing games more enjoyable. Would not be dropping this sort of cash on a laptop without it.

Yer people who say they dont get tearing I have to assume just aren't sensitive to it. Every game I play I notice tearing unless using gsync or vsync when playing on my tv.

Its not about the weight its about the size!!!! and thats 2.8kg plus the massive charger and huge 20odd inch fragile laptop which is opposite of portable. Unless you are the most impractical person in the world you wont be lugging this around with you for very long especially if you have other luggage to bring with you which you most likely will.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see your points. Buy a quality laptop bag and you simply slide it into the dedicated compartment. Any decent laptop bag will have solid protection. If your laptop if worth ~£1500, taking basic steps to protect it doesn't seem to unreasonable. I've been lugging mine around daily now (including flights) for 6 months in a Thule bag. It's just not an issue.

My point is it is impractical! how do you not get that!. That laptop bag you have full of a gaming laptop and its massive power brick now takes the place of another peice of luggage you could have on your back instead. You must be the most impractical person in the world.
nomnomnomnom

How is it impractical? It's as light as any other 17" laptop. You have a laptop and one power brick to carry. You're making this out to be a massive thing when it's not. It just sounds like you don't like laptops as there is nothing impractical about this one compared to every other one out there.
The power brick just sits at the bottom of your bag and hardly takes up any space in a laptop bag.
It's light. It's thin. You have a very powerful portable system, better than most desktops that's not even 3kg in weight. What more do you want?
As for being the "most impractical person in the world" - It's way more practicable to be able to take a light, powerful laptop around with me to clients. A high quality laptop bag makes it a breeze. I don't even think about it. You clearly have no experience in this field, yet are rabbiting on about it. Strange.

G-SYNC is a must in 2017.
Danjw91 to bouttime2

It's not though, is it! Unless you're running a high end rig and don't want V Synce enabled then it's not, even then, it's still not.
bouttime2
1 Jun 17#27
V-Sync should be on when G-Sync is on. G-Sync only works when you you are in the G-Sync range which is above 30fps but below the max refresh rate of the monitor. V-Sync will cap the FPS to keep you in the G-Sync range. Gaming with G-Sync is far superior to gaming without, and if spending over £1100 on a laptop you should expect to have it.
Danjw91
3 Jun 17#28
It didn't need too be. V Sync is to do screen tearing and so is g sync. I never have v sync on as I just have my g sync monitor. Why buy one if you have v sync on.
"if v-sync is “On,” G-SYNC will revert to v-sync behavior above its range, if v-sync is “Off,” G-SYNC will disable above its range, and tearing will begin display wide."
