The small system that's big on sound quality It might be small but the Denon DM40 DAB still puts sound quality first. "Simple & Straight" circuit design minimizes distortion from the input selector, electronic volume control and power amp for sound purity and very low levels of distortion. Working alongside this, Triple Noise Reduction Design (TNRD) works to preserve the signal quality for the most accurate, life-like sound. Make no mistake, the Denon D-M40DAB is still one of the best-sounding systems in its class.
USB to get the most from your Apple iPhone or iPod The front-mounted USB socket is ideal for connecting up your Apple iPod or iPhone and playing back music. Not only is this fully compatible for playback, it also charges your iPod or iPhone, even when in standby - making a charging dock unnecessary.
Flexible connectivity; now includes two digital inputs Although a brilliant system in its own right, the DM40DAB reaches out to your other sources, too. If you've got a TV, games console or TV set-top box, you can now plug them in using the two standard optical inputs. An analogue AUX input is also included for older sources.
Pump up the bass with an optional subwoofer By fitting a subwoofer output, Denon gives you a wider choice of speaker options. Instead of medium-sized or floorstanding speakers you can use an active subwoofer with small satellite speakers - the choice is now yours.

I had the old dm31 wired up to AE109 fabulous amp friendly speakers
With tight base and open treble and a bargain on eBay as they r now old.
However the monitor audios award winning stand mounts work a treat very solid speakers

I have a very strange experience with an earlier version of one of these. It would open or close the CD tray when you pressed the button on the remote or the unit, it would randomly do this by itself. It would also freakishly turn on the radio randomly at night. This didn't take place at the same time each night and was most off putting when you're in bed and you suddenly hear voices coming from downstairs at 3am in the morning (unit was out of warranty). I know Denon make well regarded kit but I will never buy from them again.

I also had problems with a previous version of this. after a few months of ownership it stopped playing cds. I sent it back and they sent a replacement. all was fine but now it will only play cds if it's left on for about 20 minutes to warm up then it plays fine. also small parts of the display seem to be failing. out of guarantee now.

This is a pretty good amp. I bought one sometime in the last year for playing stereo audio from my TV. Sounds very good. I also stuck a Chromecast audio in to one of the optical inputs so I can play music from my phone.

If you like watching movies get you self a subwoofer, I got one of these a year or so ago and it makes a huge difference, might not be right for you if you are limited by the volume level you can use.
