OP if you mean the Samsonite Aeres/Starfire deals then yes this is lighter and has a bit more volume. Although I think they may be a bit stronger. I have one of their old hard cases (not flexi hard) which is like granite, it's just too damn heavy with modern lugguage limits.
Since we travel a lot we ended up investing in a couple of Samsonite Cosmolite series cases (or whatever they called them back then). For the equivelant volume of this case they are 2.9KG which makes a big difference if you have a 20KG or less limit.
They are expensive, think they were £200 back then and appear to be £300 now. But I have seen them in their Bicester outlet at sub £200. And when the model/colours change retailers tend to knock ~30% off.
A lot more expensive but worth considering if you travel regularly.
